AutoCAD LT 2017 Freezes up when importing PDF files

While importing some PDF files the program freezes and takes very long to complete the process.  My cpu and memory are only be used at 25% capacity during this time.  Could it be the gpu causing this?

It looks like it may be maxing out the first core of my processor (i3-4160, 3.60Ghz)

The more complex or line segments (or text) the PDF has, the longer the translation process is in LT2017: your low end i3 processor is probably not helping to speed things up either.

So what size are these PDFs (paper size and MB size) and are they complex? define "a very long time"?

pdf's are architectural floor plans 36" x 24" file size on the pdf is small 4.7 MB.  Being floor plans there are many lines.  they take about 10 to 15 mins to complete.  My main question is what do i need to upgrade cpu or gpu

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, your hardware is going to be a bit challenged by files like that!

You can give me your hardware specs here for suggestions from the Community.

You can also get minimum requirements here.

No hardware upgrade is going to speed up the process too much more than what you are experiencing now with those types of files.
If you plan on converting PDF to dwg files all the time and that is your job, go buy a 3rd party converter program that has been designed from the ground up to do the conversion.

As a general rule i3 processors are for your company receptionist, your company accounting department and the office admin who spends all day in apps like MSOffice.

For AutoCAD your want an i5 minimum or i7 ideally both with native clock speeds in excess of 3GHZ. Having an SSD harddrive only and a video card that is not a basic Intel HD type are also recommended as a general PC specification. 16Gig of RAM is good enough for 2D.

I believe your expectations of the free built in LT2017 PDF converter are too high: it's still a v1 first release. Get better tools if this is now your job to convert PDFs all day long.
