AutoCAD LT 2016 - FATAL ERROR when trying to open a file. acismobj20.dbx

When I try to open a file from within AutoCAD LT, I get a FATAL ERROR that reads:

FATAL ERROR: (0x7feeb150005) c:\...\acismobj20.dbx

and then the program quits. I also get this error when trying to open the xref panel. Any solutions? Thanks.

I found some issues appear due to User Profiles security settings.

In my case these solutions did not work or have worked for a cretain time only.

Ultimately I solved it by assigning full privileges to a AutoCAD LT installation folder to a local user.

'acsceneoe.dbx', 'acismobj20.dbx' - it appears these files store some settings/cached info about environment and once created lacked privileges to be further edited - this is my assumption.

I have the same problem, but only on a user account. Autocad 2016 in administrator account works fine. In this situation, I conclude that it's probably some kind of protection windows (maybe against ransomware)

I use AutoCAD LT 2016 in adminisrator account, but the problem still remains. Assigning a full privilege

to the AutoCAD LT installation folder does not work, either.

This must be an administrative account built into the W11 system. AutoCad does not work with an account added to the administrators group.

@chlapBTHM8

Would you mind explaining a little more about how you assigned full privileges to the installation folder?  Did you create a folder first and then reinstall autucad to that folder, or is it settings applied to the already installed folder in the program files?

Thanks

I had a ready W10 system with AutoCad 2016 LT installed. I updated Windows to W11. I didn't need to install AutoCad.
On a normal user AC opened properly I could even start drawing something. But it didn't open old *.dwg files with fatal error.
However, in the built-in Windows administrator account, old *.dwg files opened correctly.
When I added the user to the admin group - it didn't help.
The built-in administrator probably has personal permissions that are not assigned to the Administrators group. These are not permissions in the NTFS file system.
Rather, some security policy or permissions to databases (dbx). All in all, I gave up and went back (with licensing issues) to W10. I didn't want to risk any other problems because I wasted too much time experimenting anyway. I'm waiting for someone to solve it. Regards and I wish you success.

(1) I changed the Permissions for Adminstrators to Full control of Audodesk folder, but to fail.

(2) I also tried the built-in administrator account (the first account created when the OS was installed), but to fail.

The only thing I found to work was to uninstall Win11.  It works on my husband's computer with Win11, but WITHOUT recent updates to win11.  I reverted back to Win10 and it works.  So...  I know to always keep a computer with Win10 on it, no matter what I upgrade to in the future (it will NOT be autodesk!).

I deleted the 2 files ('acsceneoe.dbx', 'acismobj20.dbx') as suggested, but the problem still remains. It does not work for me.

Yes, Longbow converter worked for me as well.  was very frustrating as my new laptop and an old one that i upgraded to Windows11 were both not running AutoCAD LT 2016.  Longbow was well worth it!

I found a way to open the .dwg file which has caused fatal error before with AutoCAD LT 2016.

  - Right click the .dwg file in File Explorer > Open with > AutoCAD LT Application.

However, this method holds while AutoCAD is not running and some .dwg file does not work in this way yet.
