AutoCAD LT 2012 - Move Command Problem

Anonymous
Not applicable

Ok, I am using AutoCAD LT 2012. So I open the move command, select my objects to move, press enter, then select my base point.  At this point everything is fine.  Then I try to select the point to move the objects to with the following - shift/right-click, select "from" in the shortcut menu, I choose a point to move my objects away from, then I type in a coordinate (@750,0) to move my objects to . . . here is where the objects should move and the command should close . . . BUT instead the command remains active and wants to move the objects from the 2nd point that I selected.  Sometimes it works it works, but most of the time it does not.  So what is wrong with my AutoCAD?

Just a thought, are you on a network, that people have small problems with other programs. If you cannot attach a drawing, could you make a copy of the command line history next time the problem occurs, and attach that as a text file or image. Or turn on the save log file in options and you could attach the relevant part of that next time it happens, which would also be a good way to check if there is anything of a pattern going on between various users.

Copy and Paste of Command Line:

Command: M MOVE Select objects: 1 found

Select objects: 1 found, 2 total

Select objects: 1 found, 3 total

Select objects: 1 found, 4 total

Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 6 found, 10 total

Select objects: Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>:

Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>: 48

"...The drawing file where it happens with consistency..."

So this is limited to one file then? That's going to be a tough remote fix if no one else can replicate in other files that you can share here.

If you've got the time and energy, fix the file with a WBLOCK followed by a RECOVER of that new file (and repeat for any Xrefs attached).

No, it happens in all of our files but the one large file is where it seems it happens the most.  However, to be fair about it - that's the one file where I spend most of my time working so I see it there more than the others.

File has already been wblocked/recovered, audit, etc...

I have the problem even in new ACAD.dwt drawings...

I can't replicate this move phenomenon in 2013 all day today, and never seen it in 2012: I'm out of ideas, sorry.

I've got a screen capture of the issue uploading to youtube.com that I'll link to shortly.... or I'll attach it if it will attach

Here's a Copy Paste of the commands during the video...

Command: m MOVE Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 5 found

Select objects: 1 found, 6 total

Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 8 found (2 duplicate), 12 total

Select objects: Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>: Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>: Command: m MOVE Select objects: p 12 found

Select objects: Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>: endp of Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>: perp to Command: m MOVE Select objects: p 12 found

Select objects: Specify base point or [Displacement] <Displacement>: endp of Specify second point or <use first point as displacement>: perp to

You can see - I only have 12 items selected (all dynamic blocks with attributes and Block Property Tables) - and the problem occurs using osnaps and just clicking without using osnap...  It's like it's getting a "from" osnap instead of a second base point.

I'm still inclined to look at symptoms of a network problem. Check your Temporary drawing file location, and look for signs of AC$ or SV$ files, these are normally automatically deleted by autocad when you close autocad. But I have encountered strange behaviour in the past and it's often a network problem or machine memory. If you do find more than a few files, then see if there is a pattern to the times they are created, often at the start of the day when everyone is starting up, and around break times. One of the main indicators of network problems is when drawings are slow to save.

Kevin, do you mind if you start a new message board of your own on this topic to keep me out of the conversation you are having with other people?  I am being notified in my E-mail every time someone posts something to this board and none of the conversation is being addressed to me . . . let alone that you are not getting a resolution to the problem.

Thank you kindly.

Just did a dir/s search of my c: drive and only found 1 - undo.ac$ at 0kb and no *.sv$

Don't think that's the issue...

We have nice workstations with the 16 Gig RAM - Nvidia Quadro 2000 video cards.

Kevin is correct in using this Thread as a starting point if the issue is the same. Starting a new Thread of the same topic would require that all the initial ideas and attempts at a fix would need to be re-hashed until those items were dismissed and cannot be assumed as having been tried.

If you wish to not receive updates to this thread then at the top of the page under Topic Options choose Unsubscribe and you will no longer receive updates to the thread.

Please mark any response as "Accept as Solution" if it answers your question.

Ok, I do have one question about this issue before anyone makes effort to exclude me from conversations where I am not involved . . . Isn't there somewhere on the Autodesk website where we can report these kinds of problems?

No offense, but judging by all of our discussions it seems obvious that none of us can prove the problem stems from the software, OR dis-prove the theory either.  In my opinion the only fair observation to make is that something must be wrong, and for 2 reasons: #1- because this IS happening to more than one person (a survey is bound to find many more) . . . even more so strange that it is happening to random users. #2- all of us are using the program the same way we have for the last decade and only now in LT 2012 is this problem happening.

Thank you to anyone that knows where/how to report these issues to Autodesk.

The only one who can make an effort to remove you from this thread is you.

The Forums are monitored and from time to time Autodesk will look deeper into the issue.

You may file a Bug Report and perhaps escalate the issue if you wish.

If on Subscription you can request Help directly from Autodesk which likely would escalate the issue.

I have issues in LT 2012 that I suspect you do not have just as this issue has never occured and seems to not occur with other users.

You are right - It could be any number of issues: Program, Network, Hardware, or all three colluding in unison.

Hashing it out here is one of the ways to find out.

This issue first showed up for me in AutoCAD 2012 LT, then the same issue in 2012 full version, and now in AutoCAD 2013 as well...

That said, here's a link to a new thread for AutoCAD 2013 to hopefully pull more people into the conversation about the full version as well.  Would love to get this some attention from AutoDESK.

Kevin,

I use 2012 LT with 2GB and this system has given me less trouble than anything in the last 3 companys and 4 versions.

Just before giving up on flogging a dead horse, you can find where the temp files are created by looking for the path under your autocad options, on the 'files' tab 'Temporary drawing file location' towards the bottom of the list.

It may not be the issue for you, but it certainly does have an effect on some systems. And to be honest with so many people using the same program, it would be more logical that if the problem isn't consistent for all people, then it may well lay where there are differences, and that is usually the system running the program.

That said it could be the program that has issues with certain systems, did someone just see a chicken laying an egg.

Filled out an Error Report and AutoDesk is on top of it.  Couldn't believe their quick response.  I'll let you know what we find out.

Hi there, I can't remember (or find it) but didn't someone on this discussion board ask someone else to post the data from a log of the file that is having the moving problem?  I am having the problem occur on the file I have open right now that I can post this log info . . .

. . . maybe I am wrong and I was discussing this via e-mail with someone from the Autodesk "bug" department.

ANyway, thanks.

Don't recall anything being asked about posting a log other than a copy and paste of the command line history...

Glad to know I'm no the only one having this issue!

Guiilty, I mentioned keeping a log. It's an option in Autocad that needs to be turned on, but it keeps a copy of the command line history, and stores it as a fairly small text file for every drawing you use, I have found it really helpfull on occasions for tracing the sequence of events leading up to problems. On reflection it may not be so helpful in this case as it doesn't show mouse clicks and what is selected.
