AutoCAD 2017 - Drawing1 Persists on startup

Just this week I started to get Drawing1 coming up when I started AutoCADLT 2017 both by starting the application on the taskbar and by double clicking a file.  When double clicking I get both the clicked file and Drawing1.

I toggled the STARTUP system variable (it was set to 3) to different numbers but always got Drawing1.

I reinstalled AutoCAD LT 2017 (it didn't seem to take very long) but still get Drawing1 regardless of the STARTUP variable setting.

Has anyone else experienced this?

So what changed on your system, or through a customization or feature-exploration, this week?

For example: did you by chance change your QNEW setting in OPTIONS' FILES tab?
Play around with the startup code?

Does resetting LT2017 (after you backup any customizations) fix the problem? Explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...

I don't want Drawing 1 or any drawing to start with. That's why STARTUP is/was set to 3. QNEW doesn't matter.

It you read my post, yes I did play around with STARTUP setting.

I don't think anything changed.

Following up on your thread, it appears that several folks have tried to help on this issue.

Were you able to find a solution? Or a workaround?
Did any of the posts in the thread help with your issue?

To add; You can reference this AKN article: How to open AutoCAD without opening Drawing1

Use the STARTUP system variable to set the value of what you would like displayed when the program starts.

0

Starts a drawing without defined settings.

1

Displays the Startup or the Create New Drawing dialog box.

2

The Start tab is displayed. If available in the application, a custom dialog box is displayed.

3 The Start tab is displayed and the ribbon is pre-loaded when you open or create a new drawing.

If the FILEDIA system variable is set to 0, file dialog boxes are not displayed.

I think a better solution though would be if AutoCAD were better.

Between AutoCAD and Windows 10 this is starting to seem like the old Soviet Union.

Vote all you want - but there's only one box on the ballot!

Spoken like a button pusher afraid to simply change a setting in the program 🙂

I acknowledge your fear of the program and the fear of having to do something that's not memorable like a button to push.

The fix has been posted: help yourself or not, you only hurt yourself in the end. Good luck.

This was not solved, by the way.  Pendean you can keep out of this; I'm really not interested in your disrespectful attitude.

I did find out that when I leave the Design Center toolbar open that I always get drawing1.dwg on startup even if I have STARTUP set to 3.

Maybe it has something to do with the drawing that is currently referenced in Design Center - could it be picking up the STARTUP variable from that drawing?

I don't know but this is still an issue for me.  Anyone have this behavior?

Nope, not here, ADCENTER is open on the second monitor all the time: what is your AutoCAD/LT year version and patch level? ABOUT command will confirm it.

Is Drawing1 a template of yours by chance? does it match what QNEW command would open?

If you fear replying to me, that's fine, but answer the questions or others will just ask the same ones.

Hi,

Change the system variable STARTUP to 2 and this will resolve the issue.

Thanks

No it didn't for me.

The problem was this: If you leave Design Center open to a drawing when you
exit, when you restart it will open Drawing1 regardless of the value of the
Startup variable.

I don't know if this is true for all drawings, but for some (open in Design
Center) it is.

If you read the original post I said that I had the Startup variable set not
to do this.

I can approve this, tried to close and leave open the Design Center, then closing and reopening the program (AutoCAD 2017) and true: if Design Center left open, then "Drawing 1" appears, regardless of the STARTUP variable. For the time being, I will only open Design Center if in need, then close it... sad, I was just starting using it more often, and wanted to fix it on the side of the screen...
