Auto cad LT 2018

I am interested in purchasing AutoCAD LT for my personal computer at home, but have a question about how it will work with other files.

I work for a landscape architecture firm and we are always working with CAD base files from engineers/architects. These files almost always have 3D data, and though I don't need to work 3 dimensionally, I do need to be able to see the linework in these backgrounds to work on my projects.

Will 3D data, proxy objects, etc. in my xrefs be visible when I work on my plans? (It's common that the civil bases are full of 3D lines and objects like drainage structures are almost always proxy objects/aecc objects..) I need to be able to see these objects (in a 2d, plan view format) to do my design work. Is AutoCAD LT an option for me?

Why not download AutoCADLT, install it in trial mode, and test those files yourself and see if the program meets with your needs an requirements? 30-days is the trial mode period, plenty of time to test everything you need to do before you buy into a subscription.

Good suggestion. I'll give that a try and see if it works. Thanks for the suggestion.

Download a trial of AutoCAD LT, and then download the Civil 3D Object Enabler (and/or other required OEs) and give it a shot. Object enablers allow the non standard objects to show correctly. Also you titled this post "2018", but if you decide to rent AutoCAD LT (you can only rent it now days, no purchasing a perpetual license), you'll find that only "2019" is available. Did you have a specific reason for stating 2018? 2018 and 2019 are forwards and backwards compatible BTW.
