Auto cad LT 2018

What is the best manual for 2018 Lt.  I have used LT 98 for years and was very simple to use.  The same functions in 2018 Lt are far more involved.  For what I do, I do not require a lot of the functions.

Thanks,

Rowland

Thanks for the reply, I have AutoCad 2017. A Power Guide fro Beginners and Intermediate Users, but there seems to be things in 2018 LT that I can’t find in 2017. It appears that over the years they have gotten away from many commands that worked very well to complicated commands that are not as versatile.

Can you give an example, of just one command and how it is different.

Forgive me, bu the first reply sent you to Amazon for one book, was there a reason you could not initial a new search over there at Amazon and look for a dedicated LT2018 book(s) on your own? I did and got these options https://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=a9_sc_1?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aautocad+lt+2018&keywords=autocad+lt+2018&ie=...

If you are stuck somewhere specific though, ask us about it, we can help you navigate the program in the interim until your book(s) arrive.

One item is a Leader. It seems that the leader is set in length on the horizontal line and cannot be changed to an angle line with several extensions.

Do you mean LEADER or MLEADER object type? They are different.
Are you perhaps referring to the portion called a "landing"? You can turn that off in MLEADERSTYLE command if you are using an Mleader.

I have tried several options, I still can’t get the leader to go where I want, change directions and terminate. I am after a simple leader and not all of the options offerd.

Unfortunately, the options are there, the good news is that once you have figured out how to set it up then you can save the settings into your template and not have to worry about them again. If you post a dwg showing exactly what you are trying to achieve, with a few different examples and a description of what it should (and should not) do then I'm pretty sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

Are you using LEADER or MLEADER command? Or are you just drawing lines and plines? Find out.

MLEADER command settings are in MLEADERSTYLE command, did you edit and change all nine steps are shown here yet?

I don’t know what I am doing. I attempted to look in F1, but seem to require numerous keystrokes to draw a leader. In LT98 all that was required was to click on the Leader icon and start drawing the leader, left click would define a point to change directions, these lines could be any length and angle. Right clicked terminated the line and a box asked whether you wanted text, Y or N, very simple and east to use.

I used to own a Triumph Herald (car) the hood opened to the front and you could get at everything. I stripped and nearly rebuilt that car. Try that today, you can't even change a headlight bulb without being a contortionist or having specialist tools. LT98 is 20 years old.

Leader.jpg

Open the multileader style manager, from the menu it's in the format tab, on the ribbon you'll find it on the annotate tab and then the leaders panel

Create a new style, will open the modify style dialogue, goto the second tab "Leader structure" and change the maximum leader points to a higher number than yo will ever need for segments. Untick the option for a landing. You might also want to change the arrow size in the "Leader format" tab. Click OK then close. Save the file as your template. And you will be good for the next 20 years (or at least till next year when you renew your subscription)

Once done click on your leader icon and you can place points anywhere you want with the left mouse button and finish with the right mouse which will then let you enter your text. It does automatically open the text editor with a flashing cursor for you to enter text, but if you don't want any text just left click with the mouse somewhere away from the text box or hit escape.

HI @Anonymous,

You have a lot of help going on in this thread.  I can imagine that the shift from such an old version to the current version is challenging to say the least.

I have attached a Preview Guide to show you what has changed in the current version.

You might find videos on Youtube that will help and you might also consider Lynda.com.

If you have specific questions like the leader one, I suggest that you create a new thread for it so you will get quicker and more specific help.

Have you gotten the Leader to work properly?

That is true but it seems that some wizards need to reinvent the wheel, I will struggle on and figure a way around the problem.

There is big difference between the wooden wagon wheel made to travel at 5 miles an hour, and the tubeless tire wheels used by a Porsche for speed, or a F150 for load. At some point, wagon wheels no longer work on our roads, for our speeds, and for our loads.

I've been using AC since version 10 in 1989. Over the years, most improvements, have been improvements. The people here are also very helpful, and courteous requests always get good response.

Yesterday, I received my new book “Mastering AutoCAD 2018 and AutoCAD LT 2018” by George Omura. I will look it over in the next few days and see what I can learn.

Thanks,
Rowland

Thanks for the detailed reply, I will try it tomorrow.  I have another question, is it possible  to make up a panel with tools from other panels.  I would like to make a panel with tools that use frequently.

Thanks,  Rowland
