Added the pattern by folllowing the instructions but it doesnt seem to load up in the program.  I made sure the file and pattern name are the same, there is a blank line in the file, loaded it into the options box under the file tab from the c drive.  I attached pictures of the file and where I loaded it . I must be missing something.

Thank you for your helphatch pattern file.PNGOptions box in autocad lt 2017.PNG

Thank you for your help.  I did find the custom tab.  I opened it and got an error code on the pattern.  I attached the error message.  Do not know what is wrong with it.autocad pattern error code.PNG

Perhaps the file is damaged.  Try the attached which appears to start with the same text..

Still showing error code with the rockwell pattern.  I downloaded this from the catalyst website.  Do not know if this is damaged. Can you look at the code and see if there is a problem with it

Thank you

Open the file with a text editor (I recommend Notepad2), add another blank line to the end of the file and save to file "rockwall.pat"

Can you post the file you have, the error message doesn't say a lot but normally if there is a problem inside the file it will give a line number where the problem is, this error looks more like a naminng problem, are you 100% sure the name of the file is correct, no extra spaces or capitalisation. (in your last post you call it rockwell and in the image it is rockwall)

Q: is there a single blank line at the end of the code in that PAT file? it is required.

Still not working.  The name is Rockwall and so is the file.  Not sure how to add a blank line at the end.  I attached the file.  Autocad stated that there is an error in pattern file

Thank you for all your help

hatch Pattern works fine: I do notice than in your screenshot the .PAT in the name shows up on the hatch command pop-up though, it's not supposed to do that

I'm attaching my copy of that classic hatch pattern if you want to try and replace yours.

One other thought, in your first post you show the support file path, your hatches folder is on the bottom of the list, Autocad will search through the file path in the order that the folders are listed, is there a chance that you have a non working .pat file further up the tree or even a hatch named rockwall in the standard Autocad .pat file. Probably a long shot but could be worth doing a windows search just to check.

Hi Mary,

Adding a blank line to the end of the file is not difficult.

It is a text file.

- Open it with Notepad.
- Go to the end of the file.
- Hit return to add an empty line.
- Save.

Make sure you select SaveAs "all files" to avoid saving it as
rockwall.pat.txt which is a problematic NotePad feature - if you do just
rename the result to rockwall.pat

Dean's point regarding the pattern filename extension being shown in the custom pattern list  could indicate that the pattern actually resides in a file called rockwall.pat.pat somewhere on the search path search order that Steve picked up on. Kudos to both.

If so the pattern name does not match the containing file name and an error will be thrown as shown.

Mary, please try running a global search for all files with name starting with rockwall and ending with .pat and see what's what - you can do this with the search mask rockwall*pat in Windows Explorer or by using this excellent file search utility https://www.mythicsoft.com/filelocatorlite to thoroughly search the entire drive.

best,

Hugh

Want to thank everyone for helping in getting this problem resolved for me.  I did use the attached rockwall pat and it still didnt work.  Then I searched for the file and found 3 with the rockwall.pat.pat.  I deleted those and used the search utility that was suggested and cleaned it up yet again.  Went back to autocad and the new rockwall.pat that i downloaded worked.  I then tried it in the program and was getting a solid color in the hatch area.  After playing around with  the settings on the ribbon and setting the HPMAXAREAS = 0 (was at 100) it worked.  Thanks for all  your help.  I would never have gotten to work without all your suggestions
