Adding Annotation Scales

marchitect_nc

In a drawing with pre-existing Annotation Scales, if/when I create a new Annotative Scale, Autocad randomly assigns the new scale to my existing text and dimensions. So most, not all, of the existing text and dimensions now show two sizes of text when you click on them.

How to stop this behavior?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi,

the best answer?

do not define multiple anno-scale with the same definition.

The question is: Why do you habe multiple scale with the same scalefactor, is it needed?

Make sure the ringed item in the image below is grey (not selected)

Umm, I don't have multiple scales with the same factor. One is 1'=3/16" the other is 1'=600'...

Oh, i missed the case.

>>"Autocad randomly assigns the new scale to my existing text and dimensions. So most, not all,"

Sure? It should apply to all annotative objects which are displaying in this moment,

and the function is named ANNOAUTOSCALE

(see the answer above, you can see the icon for it in your statusbar too)

>>"of the existing text and dimensions now show two sizes of text when you click on them."

>>"How to stop this behavior?"

So what do you want to stop

the automatic adding of anno-scales to anno-objects?

ANNOAUTOSCALE

or the visibility of all anno-scale sizes of an object?

SELECTIONANNODISPLAY

[F1] for more information about this

and this occurs in multiple drawings, all is well until a new Annotative Scale is added...

I have spent much time cleaning up the drawing, removing the unwanted scales from drawings that are supposed to have only one scale associated with them, so I can't provide an example of the error.

@marchitect_nc OR there is no problem.

FWIW we cannot follow your methods as described here, you might have glossed over a few things: record a video and show us what it is you are doing using this built-in tool https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/simplecontent/content/download-autodesk-screencast...

Ok, so I'm setting the Annoautoscale to 0 to see if that stops the problem.

If it doesn't I'll be back.

Thanks.

Okay,

if "And the ringed item in the image provided is greyed out.."

was the case while you created a new anno-scale, then i don't know!

I couldn't reproduce what your are talking about, perhaps i made a mistake?

I open a new acad.dwt based file, created 5 Text objects, all annotative=Yes and all supports (just)  1:1 for example.

What i have now  to do to see the trouble?

I changed annoscale - no problem

i created a new anno-scale in this drawing, no problem.

After all, all my 5 text supports still anno-scale 1:1 and diesplaying only if cannoscale is set to 1:1

(or annoallvisible is on)

Please explain in detail how you "add" new anno-scales and double check that

ANNOAUTOSCALE is really off in this moment.

 - - - - -

We still try to understand your issue, but now, I think that the following is not your problem,

but i like to correct this comment:

>>"Umm, I don't have multiple scales with the same factor. One is 1'=3/16" the other is 1'=600'..."

Sorry, this is just a name of a anno scale, it could also be TREE or CAT or FIRESTONE,

i talked about the definition! The scale factor behind the name!

for example:

Annoscale "CAT" defined with 0.1875PaperUnits=12DrawingUnits

Annoscale "Test123" defined with 0.1875PaperUnits=12DrawingUnits

Annoscale "3/16"=11-0" is also defined with 0.1875PaperUnits=12DrawingUnits

Thre names, but the same definition

It should, but now we are confused bcause you wrote it was already disabled (Icon in red circle was greyed out).

Perhaps it was ON in the second you added the annotation scale (i guess you don't added the scale, just changed the CANNOSCALE 😉  )

Ok, I'm back, Annoautoscale set to 0 didn't fix the problem.

The attached file shows the problem that repeated itself today.

If you select a piece of text you will see that two sizes of text will show up, ghosted out, and this can be confirmed by selecting the text>go to Properties>Annotative Scale>pick the Scale box and it will show 2 Annotative Scales (1/2"=1'-0" and 1/4"=1'-0").

It's only supposed to be 1/4"=1'-0", I didn't add the 1/2"=1'-0" to this text.

The same is true with the dimensions, they are supposed to all be  1/4"=1'-0", but as you can see they too have the 1/2"=1'-0" scale added to them.

What I want is to have Autocad stop randomly adding unwanted annotative scales to my text and dimensions. If I set a text or dimension as 1/4"=1'-0" then I don't want another scale being automatically added to it. Ever.

My conception of Annotative Scaling is that you set up one Dimension or Text style and it works for all drawing scales, instead of setting up a series of separate Text or Dimension Style for every drawing scale. Am I wrong?

So input needed.

Thanks,

Mark

I will see? NO !

Just if your selectionannodisplay is on, yes 😉

>>"It's only supposed to be 1/4"=1'-0", I didn't add the 1/2"=1'-0" to this text."

Okay, but..

>>"What I want is to have Autocad stop randomly adding unwanted annotative scales to my text and dimensions."
AutoCAD ist just a stupid computer programm, it can't acting random.
You need to find the trigger, what are your doing that ACAD add the annoscale?

>>"My conception of Annotative Scaling is that you set up one Dimension or Text style and it works for all

???
If you like to have textsizes all the time in the the same size, independend of viewport scale factors,
you need to add all anno-scales you want to use in your Layout

If you have a file with only one line and one Text, and in
your Layout with three viewports you can see both objects 3x
You like to scale your view(port)s 1x 1/2", 1x 1/4", 1x 3/8",
the line displaying with three different length..
And if you want to have all 3x the Text in the same size visible,
you can set annotative=yes and add all three anno-scales to yout Text.
This way, the text appears threee times with height 0'-0 9/128" (for example).

Without annotation feature, the text appears in different height,
scaled by the viewport scalefactor - like the line.

{short break}
I opened your file, saw 1/2" and 1/4" scales on your objects,
but scale 3/8" was the current anno-scale and AnnoAllVisible was ON.
If i see such a setting, my eyes rolling around and i ask me: Why?
{/short break}

! Your Layout was empty, would you please upload the original file?

I guess you deleted the layout content before upload?
but i like to see your viewport data.

Ok, I turned selectionannodisplay off.

That seems to have fixed the problem.

If not, I'll be back.

Thanks, Mark

This is not an issue, thats a feature.

You wrote the problem is that Acad adding unwanted additional anno-scales to your objects.

And if selectionannodisplay is on or if doesn't changes the fact that your objects refer to two annoscales.

But if you lucky now, good
