adding a page number field

I am using autocad lt 2017.  I have inserted a field to my title block that will show what I type into each page tab at the bottom using the insert field and system variables and selecting ctab.  I have used this for the title of each page, but is there a field or somehow that I could add a field that will insert the page number also without having to change what I have typed in the tabs?  example,  for my tabs I have the deck number and area in each tab and then the ctab field displays exactly what I have typed.  Without changing my descriptions to have only numbers in the tabs can I somehow show page numbers too?  when I try to use the currentsheetnumber field it only displays ####  in the field box.....

#### can either mean the space provided is not long enough (table cell for example), or it could mean you don't actually have an entry call currentsheetnumber.

So, dumb question time: are you actually using SSM (Sheet Set Manager)? You mention everything but that, and "currentsheetnumber" is a selection for only when you use SSM and no other feature in AutoCAD/LT.

I am using the sheetsetmanager and have the pages numbered there as I would like.  If I just insert the field to the paper space "on top" of the block and not actually inside the block using block editor the field shows the correct number for what ever page.  But I am trying to avoid adding this field after all the pages have been created by inserting the field into an existing block that is already on each sheets paper space.  This is when the field no longer will update or show the correct page number.  Is there a block attribute or a different way to insert the field to the block and still display correct page?
