🔊 Access locally stored files while using ACAD web in a browser

AutoCAD web is a browser-based application. You can get access to web through a stand-alone subscription or if you have access to ACAD desktop it's included as part of your subscription.

We recently released a feature that enables customers to access their locally stored files while using ACAD web in a browser.

What is Local File Access? Local file access on ACAD web streamlines access to your DWG files saved on a local drive or Local Area Network (LAN), allowing you to make edits directly without worrying about duplicating files in the cloud. See screenshot below for more details.

Don't want to upload a file in order to view it in web? Now you can add a local location (folder) in web to access your files

Browse to select a locally stored folder you want to interact with in web. Once selected you'll see the folder available in web, nothing gets moved, you're simply enabling web to communicate with that folder

Once you add a local location, click on the drawing to open and edit as usual. Any changes you make will automatically save back to your local location. No more downloading a copy.

Have you heard of this new feature?

  • If yes, have you tried it? what do you think of it?
  • If no, is it something you see being useful for you? why or why not?

A nice solution for a web app to access a local folder safely. Is this folder also accessible from the LISP interface? The "local" DWG files seem to be located in "/acad/workingDir" (as for DWGPREFIX) but files opened here through LISP do not show up locally.
