A PDF is always created when saving in LT 2018

Whenever I save a drawing, LT automatically creates a PDF. Searching online, I didn't find anyone else having that problem.

What setting do I change to eliminate the unwanted PDFs?

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

It sounds like you have AUTOPUBLISH turned on.

If you want to turn it off open OPTIONS, select the Plot and Publish Tab. On the lower left side you will see a check box.

Thanks for the suggestions, but AUTOPUBLISH is not enabled, either as a command line or in a dialogue box setting.

What method are you using to save the drawings? could you give us a step by step, even better would be a copy of the command line history to see if anything unusual is going on there? Change the variable "macrotrace=1" go through your save routine, then press the F2 key to bring up the command history, right-click in that window and choose the option "copy history" then either paste it into notepad and attach the txt file here or click on the insert code icon when you reply to this forum and paste the results in the dialogue box.

I'm using a "fresh out of the box" setup (no customizations) of LT.

When I create a new drawing, I use the "save as" from the drop-down menu. When I make changes, I click on the "floppy disk" icon. Each time the save process takes place, a PDF is created with the same name as the drawing.

For reference, I've been an ACAD user since the DOS days.

Q: how do you know it's an actual usable PDF file? Start your PDF reader and try to open one of these PDF files to confirm.

I don't doubt your abilities, but changing macrotrace=1 can give quite a bit more information at the command line, that you don't normally get to see, it's very doubtful that an external source is creating the PDF's, and this is just a way to narrow down the options to find out what is going on, it could be down to a corrupt installation.

Apparently it's not a valid PDF because I get the message "Adobe Reader could not op (file name) because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged..."
Either way, AutoCAD is creating the file.

Hi @Anonymous,

Does this get corrected if you perform a Reset Settings to Default?

I'm not certain what you mean - I haven't seen a "reset settings" command. My copy of LT was installed last week and I've only logged about 8 hours use. To the best of my recollection, aside from user preferences (such as cursor size, background color, etc) I have not made any changes.

Here's what my folder looks like:

Ace's Files.jpg

If I delete one of the faux PDF files, it reappears after each save.

Thank you for the link.

I understand your desire to return to a baseline as a reference, but after spending time to "personalize" the user-preference settings I'm loathe to go thru that effort again. Are there other methods we can try?

I have a copy of Civil 3D at home and the user preference changes are exactly the same.

HI @Anonymous,

You will have the option to backup your settings during the process. I would like to get back to "factory" so we can see  if the problem persists.

I figured as much: are you relying on WIndows Explorer to explain the file type instead of turning on the file extension to see what it actually is?

I bet it's just a BAK file that got hijacked or assigned to your Adobe Reader somehow.

Turn on "view file extensions" in Windows explorer and find out for sure.

Yes, you are correct. The extension is also shown by right-clicking on the icon and selecting properties.
Now that we know they're not PDFs, how do I change the icon to reflect the actual type of file?
