Zoom extents zooms way too far

Title pretty much sums it up. When I do zoom extents it zooms out so far and it takes me forever to zoom in and find my drawing again. This happens even if I select all and delete everything and then draw a circle at the origin so I know I don't have any fragments somewhere out in the drawing. Help please!

I just discovered something that might help somebody.

In model space my "zoom all" was way overdone showing my tiny drawing in the corner of a huge black space. After trying "everything" suggested online, including PURGE, I found 3 layers stubbornly hanging on when I knew they contained no drawing information. Still, these could not be deleted directly from the Layer Properties Manager. I discovered that these could still be deleted using the LAYDEL command. One at a time, I deleted each and with the last one gone (naturally) my "zoom all" returned a display that only included my drawing, edge to edge in my screen.

Layers cannot be deleted because they are referenced in a style or there are objects on that layer.  It had been, in the Land Desktop days, that it would generate dozens if not hundreds of block inserts that only contained invisible attributes.  These would not appear unless the ATTDISP system variable was set to "On" (It is usually set to "Normal").

You can rest assured that if they could not be purged that something is deleted when you force deletion of those layers.

I have noticed that when there is a Civil 3D Profile view in the drawing the zoom extents will behave like this.  It seems that something critical to them is in the drawing at 0,0.

I should explain that I do electrical engineering/drawings in Autocad LT and I often put literally all of my work in the same model space....plans, diagrams, details, etc. In this particular case, I robbed a drawing from a different project so all I needed was one diagram, I erased everything else...then purged the drawing. Still, I had 3 layers that were meaningless to the diagram I was drawing. I'll defer to your experience regarding why the layers would not purge....all I can say is they were clearly needed for plans and not for diagrams.
As it turns out, a lot of screwy stuff happens when robbing drawings or getting stuck having to use someone else's drawing as the basis for a new drawing. It's probably best to cut and paste to a new drawing every time.
Thanks for you comments.

I Have never experienced this issue, and I have a LOT of ProfileViews in a lot of drawings. If you are seeing this consistently, might want to check your PV Style for errant entities.

CTRL+ Shift + C will allow selecting an insertion point and CTRL + SHIFT + V will bring the clipboard objects back as a single block, FYI

Hi @Anonymous,

Select everything, copy and paste it to the new drawing. You can also try WBLOCK to create a block. It might be possible that there are some hidden objects present in the drawing file.

Thank you. Number 1 worked for me. Turns out an XRef could not be found and the file path was at 0,0 (on a layer that was off). Didn't even need the XRef. Deleted the file path/text and worked like a charm.

For me, it was a dynamic block that stretched around a circle with a quad polar array (pinch ring for a monopole). (Telecom).

But my results would only resolve if I purged that specific block from the drawing, then I would be able to zoom out without the pin point.

I tried to change the constraints and parameters so that the block still functioned, but it wouldn't. Center of block circle was at 0,0,0.

Audited and purged, still no luck. I just gave up and exploded it and purged it out. Anyone have any ideas?
