i made a service drawing whose xref is located inside a folder called xref. i put both these xref and service drawing into a folder named say,123. i made sure that the path of xref is the file inside the folder called XREF. if i copy the same root folder named 123 to a pendrive and open in another computer, y the xref is not loading. i need to either bind or again and again select the path.is it possible to load the xref from the same folder irrespective of pc we use,.

please help

If you make the xreference path relative it should work.

To do this you change everything in the file name in the xref manager before the XREF folder to '..'

Eg. C:\JOB NAME\XREF\xrefname.dwg   would become    ..\XREF\xrefname.dwg

Screenshot attached for reference.

Bianca.

Hi,

Can you try replacing the double dot with a single dot?

eg. '.\XREF\xreffile.dwg'

The reason for this is that the double dot makes it jump out one folder, then go back in, whereas the single dot keeps it in the same folder. I mixed it up sorry.

1. Setup relative paths.

or

2. ETRANSMIT command to zip everything to current folder structure, then extract to a new drive.

or

3. Use BIND and retain to hold everything in a single DWG (but It will make your file size larger).
