xrefs do not display when layerstates are used

If you assign a unique layer to each of several xrefs contained in a dwg, and you are using layerstates, I find that the xrefs fail to display. This forces me to constantly reload the xrefs. Very annoying.

Hi,

>> I find that the xrefs fail to display.

That's mean that you have a Layer problem, you may have a freezed xref layer .

>> This forces me to constantly reload the xrefs.

''Reload'' word means that you have a Path problem to your xref !!!

Please try to describe more your issue , so we can understand well your problem .

I am not being prompted to reload and the paths are intact. I have a 2d file of a 100,000 square foot space that has a raised computer room floor. I had to create layout tabs dedicated for elements above the ceiling (OH for OverHead) and layout tabs for elements below the raised floor (UF for UnderFloor). So I loaded an xref for OH and another for UF and assigned each their own unique layers. I also placed all UF element's layers - including that for the xref, into a layer state called OH. Ditto for UF. Each layout tab has the appropriate Layerstate selected. However, the xref associated with each tab often will not appear unless I force a reload. There seems to be something inherently unstable about this method of creating construction documents using this method. But in all honesty, I need to review the entire functionality of  Layerstates  - for example, the editor shows one of my two saved layerstates is in ''model'' under the Space column and the other is in Layout. And I need to investigate what the column titled ''Same as DWG'' really means - mine both say no.

I found the problem.

I kept noticing layers, whose text appeared gray and belonged to the xrefs, unexpectedly kept showing up in my host file's layer property manager as being turned off. (turned off, not frozen) So I turned them on and updated the associated layer states. Everything works good now.

When I set up my host file originally, I created a specific layer for each xref, and I made each of those current before i attached the associated xref. I assumed, for some reason, that the entire xref with all of its layers would be controlled by the status of that single host file layer.
