XREF WON'T LOAD

Hello people,

I have got a question about XREF's. Less than a week ago I downloaded Autocad 2018 on a computer which had only had Autocad 2013 on it before. It went as intended and everything worked. At least I thought it did...

When I opened a drawing, the XREF did not load. It says it's unresolved. I just have to reload it and everything is fine, though when I save it and reopen it, the XREF is unresolved all over again...  Every time when I open the drawing, the XREF is unresolved. 

I thought it might have been an error in the drawing or XREF itself thus I used -PURGE, PURGE and AUDIT to resolve the errors, though none were found... 

Then I saved the drawings to Autocad 2018 but that did not help either. Same issues all over again. It seems every drawing has this problem.

I hope someone can help me.

Depending on how you first started AutoCAD 2018, not all the same settings or none of the settings from your AutoCAD 2013 are migrated into 2018.

How is the path of the XRef saved; absolute, relative or with no path at all?

If it is the last you will need to add the location of the folder where your XRef's are into the search paths, so AutoCAD can find them (Options-->Files-->Support File Search Paths).

Thanks for the quick response but I already deciphered it and resolved the problem. I had to change the settings of XREF to disable instead of enable with copy under Options.

Ok, good to hear.

Just be aware that with XRef copy disabled, you will also lock the XRef whenever you open a drawing with that XRef attached.

Hi,

i suggest to check if you don't have a compatible drawing format . i mean that if you open a file from AutoCAD 2013 and that file have an xref was saved from AutoCDA 2018 thne you will have a problem.

I have this exact same problem.  I can change the demand load xrefs setting to either 'disable' or 'enable' and it works fine but I cannot change it to 'enable with copy'.  It looks to be something specific to my computer as I tried the same drawings on other computers in our office and it works just fine. 

Paths are set to relative, I tried changing the folder for the file copy.  I also opened each xref file and saved it to the 2018 format and got the same result.  I'm glad there is a work around but its odd that this doesn't work properly.  I wonder if maybe there is a registry problem because this seems to act as if you loaded a file but left the xrefs unloaded from the dialog window, of course they say unresolved not unloaded.
