Xref will not allow relative path

Hi

Before everyone flames me for not searching on relative paths, I have searched but, my issue is a bit different.

So I am trying to change my xref path from full path to relative path. Everytime I do so, I get "relative path can not be assigned". Through my searches I have tried the following:

-Checked file source drive

-Save drawing, then try again.

-Save drawing, close cad, open and try again

- updated the SP2, restarted computer, try again

None of those methods have worked so far. The only method that did work, was to repath from another computer.

Short of reinstalling 2013 onto my computer, is there any other fixes?

Thanks again

Where is the xref located?

In the same project folder?

On the same drive?

Remember, to allow a relative path the xref will need to be in the proper location.

Did you try detaching the xref and re-attach with the "relative" option?

So this issue has been weird to say the least, a few hours after the inital post the relative path function magically decided to work. Success one would think, but the very next day the function stopped working all together.

I have since reinstalled 2013 and what do you know, relative path function does not work. At this point, does anyone know how to permanently set the paths to relative in depths of autocads registry?

There must be something in the way you have these xrefs in your project structure that causes this problem.

Autocad does not magically change from relative to absolute paths and back again at whim, regardless of using 2015 or 2013 versions of the program.

Let us know how your project folders are structured.

Clearly I understand that, but this frustation is comical at best hence my sarcasm about magic autocad.

anyhow, file structure is as follows

server>main job folder > revision A > drawing files

I am working in the drawing files and xref'ing within said drawing files.

If the files you are referencing in are in the same folder as the target drawings, then the implest thing is to set to 'no path', and let the automatic search find the xrefs.  Relative makes sense when in a separate folder, either above, below, or beside the drawing foilder, but if in the _same_ folder, relative pthing offers you nothing.
