Xref Question

Hello and thanks for reading to help me 🙂

I hope this makes sense, so i have 5 thousand drawings and i need to change the xref attached to the 5 thousand drawings to another xref that is in the same path. In other words i do not want to open 5 thousand drawings detach the xref and attach the other xref that i need. How do i do this please, ive tried LSP's and have had no luck please please please help me out. so the path doesn't need to be updated, the xref that the 5 thousand drawings are linked to needs to be changed. My quick fix was to just edit the current xref that the 5 thousand drawings are linked to so i can just do a batch PDF publish and then reverted it back to its original condition.

Thanks in advance

P.S the reason for why i want to attach a new xref and replace the old one is due to the fact that i am moving into a further stage in my project and the title block is different has more detail and some things removed.

Hi,

One or more (multi dwg) Xref also can be select and insert as xref, (eg 5 drawings or 10 drawings or 15 drawings), in model space need to rearrange. may be i should be hang your system. enter command ER you can see all drawing are loaded.

you can repeat same selecting multi drawings and insert as xref. each time in model space xref file to be rearrange, don't forget to save each time.

you can done in one hour or give outside work

Have you try reference manager? It is a quick way to change xref path to multiple drawings. Image below shows you how to edit the path easily. Make sure you press the APPLY CHANGES button so the path will set to the DWG file.

Go to Start>Find AutoCAD folder>Reference ManagerGo to Start>Find AutoCAD folder>Reference ManagerStep to add & edit pathStep to add & edit pathChange Path & you should see green check markChange Path & you should see green check mark

hello, if i understand you correctly? here just rename the new xref base on the old xref name and overwrite the old xref with new one with same name same path/folder so you dont need to open the the drawing to re attach the xref. thanks

and there's the additional information that was not included in this or your other thread. I'm surprised no one anticipated that this would happen when using the same XREF for thousands of drawings.

Place a new XREF with the same name into a different folder and repath the 5000 dwgs to the new location.

OR

You might look into creating and running a script file and letting it run while taking a long break.

Have you thought of saving the originally referenced xref with a different name and then renamed the file you want to reference instead with the original xref's name?  No changes are needed to the 5000 drawings as long as the insertion point, content, and layering are compatible.

There are two posts marked as solutions ATM and neither of them solve the issue. @Anonymous, you should be able to unmark them as accepted solutions.

Have you even tried the solution in post #3 provided by @syman2000 which you dismissed? It should work.
