xref question

I have 2 CAD files. A is used as an xref of B. B is the current file.

I want to modify the xref, file A, by adding some new layers. I want the new layers to show up in file A but I don't want them to show automatically in B. Now I have to freeze these layers one by one in B. How could I avoid doing that when adding layers? thx

One way:

Use a standard template that contains all of your layers in both files (before getting started).

Let's say you have 100 layers, but only have geometry on 10 of them in File "A". Freeze the other 90 layers before Xref'ing A into B.

When you xref A into B, those 90 layers will be frozen also. As long as VISRETAIN = 1, they will stay frozen, even when you thaw them in "A", and reload the xref.

Then you can thaw them in "B" as desired.

Why do you have to freeze them "one by one"?? Are they not logically named (and grouped) to allow the use of wildcards??
