xref invalid

why do I continue to get this error message with this version of autocad 2018? It is annoying. I then have to close autocad drawing I'm trying to xref into, then reopen and can then insert my xref. I thought I had seen a fix for this. What ia going on please? Anyone?

Hi @paulhenricarvalho,

I have never experienced this myself. Can you make  a Screencast to show me your steps? Can you also share some sample files so I can try this on my side?

Why do you feel this error is popping up? Have you checked the xref file using Audit and Purge?

Hey John, next time I get the error I will screencapture it. I have no idea why this happens. I am constantly purgeing. I have not used audit before. Do you suggest this?

Hi @paulhenricarvalho,

Yes, I actually run Audit every time I open a file (good habit maybe).  I also like to run -Purge>Regapps as a regular practice.

Hi @paulhenricarvalho,

I am sorry but the image does not show an error. Can you share the files so I can try to xref the file?

lower left corner or image says 'invalid'.

you will need to detach the xref's then maybe try to reopen and close-I closed the file with Title Block, re-opened, and it worked, but this is tedious.  not sure you will get the same error.

Hi @paulhenricarvalho,

I am looking at the Xref file and it has AMCAD objects - do you have an object enabler for that application? It also shows that it is missing three Xref files. Can you share those too to make sure that is not part of the issue?

I have detached those extra files except the Title Block.  They were scans-pdf/jpeg I was using to draw my plan from an existing job drawing.  They have never been an issue until this version.

don't know what either object enabler or AMCAD objects are.

Hi @paulhenricarvalho,

I was able to remove some of the AMAcad references by performing a -PU>Regapps. I also found that AUDIT detected errors in the file (I am using AutoCAD 2019).

Please try the files I have attached and let me know if they perform normally.

hate to sound like a complete idiot, but I have no idea how this will make a difference. The drawing seemed to open just fine, but what do I need to do on my end ion future to eliminate this issue?

What is regapps? it doesn't act like a cad command. I purge constantly, and am now doing audit regularly and will see how that helps.

what is amacad references? never heard of this and never had this issue.

Hi @paulhenricarvalho,

-PURGE>Regapps removes any registered applications that have been added to the drawing at points in time.

When I first opened your file my Proxynotice popped up to tell me that it had AMACAD objects in it.  From what I have found, this appears to be part of a document management system in the past. I have not found any object enablers to let me see or handle these objects so I am assuming that if I can remove them they wont be missed and  might provide a cleaner file.

I hope that keeping the files cleaner will help to eliminate this issue you have been experiencing.

John, I still don't know what regapps is or purge>regapps, neither of these is a command. purge, yes, but the other two no.

HI @paulhenricarvalho,

make sure you include the hyphen in front of the PURGE: -PURGE

hi @paulhenricarvalho,

I apologize if I am unclear.

-PURGE is the command

Regapps is the option you select once the command starts.
