XCLIP and XREF

We have a drawing from an architect that we need to xref into our structural drawing.  Their drawing is made up of a bunch of xrefs with a buch of xclips.

In order to manipulate their layers in our drawing we need to bind/insert and expolde the xrefs in their drawing before xreffing it into ours.... the issue is that when it's exploded it all the xclips are removed.

I've tried dxfout and exportlayout but that didn't help.

Is there any way to do this or are we stuck with not being able to manipulate the layers very well?

Thanks,

Larry

You mention a "bunch" of xrefs, how many xrefs does this architect's plan contain?

You should still be able to manipulate layers because the xrefs presumably different file names.

Or is it one xref that has been copied multiple times?

If that does not work you could insert the individual xref files into your structural drawing.

Hard to give you a solution without knowing precisely how these files are put together and what you need to do with them

Exportlayout should be the one, what about didn't work when you used it?

Thanks for the reply.... it has about 10 xrefs, some of them referenced multiple times with differing xclips to modify the floor layout.

I did figure it out though.... the architect had inserted his xrefs all on differing lyers rather than on layer 0.... once I fixed that it worked as it should have.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply Grantspirate...

I figured out the issue.... the architect had inserted his xrefs all on differing lyers rather than on layer 0.... once I fixed that it worked as it should have.

Rather than doing an export layout I normally prep architects plans this way:

open his floor plan

save as X-floor (for my use)

bind, insert all his xrefs

detach his xrefs

purge

save

This make for a fairly clean background for our use and then we can manipulate the layers as needed... (assuming there is good layer control on their end, which isn't always the case.... mech units on the furniture layer!?....)

Thanks again,

Larry

You can also try EXPLODEALL.

It works on xclipped xref except it has been inverted.
