Can anyone please clarify few things about workspaces.

What is the difference between 3d basics, 3d modelling, drafting and annotation workspaces?

Moreover what is the difference between design, drafting and modelling?

Those Workspaces contain commands that are specific to their names; the basics for creating 3D content, more 3D tools in the one called 3D Modelling, and finally tools associated with 2D content creation and the text and dimensions that describe that content (annotation).

Design = um, designing things

Drafting = drawing things, usually in 2D and most times represented at a scale appropriate to fit on a sheet of some sort

Modelling = usually refers to the creation of 3D objects (models)
