Why is it that the symbol for "Greater Than/equal to" shows as "?" symbol.

Why is it that the symbol for "Greater Than/equal to" shows as "?" in text mode. Mtext shows correctly unless I explode it then it does turn into a ? character. "Less than/equal to" no problem at all or any other symbol I've used but this one. I've had this problem with every Autocad release I worked on. Currently using ACAD 2018 Mechanical. Using the Alt+242 and \U+2265 and few other. None of them have worked.

Not enough specific information for anyone here to replicate, so the generic answer is...
MTEXT is special and have abilities to override a font being used: TEXT does not, when you exploded it, that special font access/symbol got lost most likely.

Why do you need to explode it into TEXT if I may ask? There is rarely a need to do that when you need special characters to be used.

How more specific would you want me to be? To replicate this issue type these unicodes on simple text. May be they work in your system. That means it is an issue with my current AutoCAD release and all the previous ones I have owned as well.

I mention exploding the Mtext to illustrate that the symbol "Greater Than/equal to" also converts to a question mark IF you explode it, but it won't change the "less Than/equal to" or other common Unicode symbols that I know of.

Reason I need to use this symbol is when I am editing CAD drawings that have simple text I have to add geometric and mathematical symbols such as ohms, microinches, plus/minus etc... I have no problem with any other symbol, but the greater/ equal to and actually the square root symbol as well, but I hardly use that one. I could convert all text to Mtext, but not allowed.

Share a DWG file sample with the unexploded plus exploded mtext in it would be a good place to start.

For me in plain Text, it works fully as expected with .ttf fonts, but I have your same problem with .shx fonts.  But in Mtext, while both ≤ and ≥ work as expected in .ttf fonts, with .shx the ≤ works in the "look" of the font, but the ≥ has a .ttf look [instead of the  ?  that appears there in plain Text]:

Not that I have any explanation or solution....

What you want is not easily possible in TEXT. See reply above for realities and challenges of the program.

Yes, I can confirm that the less than or equal appear correct and the greater than equal sign shows as "?". This is a problem when using .shx font. The only option to avoid this would be to use ttf font in text, so that the text appears same as it was before exploding in mtext. Snapshot below of text using .shx font with both the symbols and text using .ttf font with both the symbol.
