whole drawing becomes exploded

whole drawing becomes exploded

Anyone have their whole drawing become exploded. For instance, all my joined rectangles and dimensions are no longer joined. Not from me doing it.

Hi,

what is the question to that statement?

If the question is if you can undo that exploding of entities? The answer is: sorry no, not if the drawing was closed in the meantime, otherwise _UNDO would work.

Sorry, - alfred -

Hi,

>> maybe overkill command did so

Good catch for polylines, but dimensions would not be exploded then.

I guess the only chance is to find backups from previous versions of that file.

Sounds like somebody else has been in your drawing and exploded everything - unless you have a script or something running that you weren't aware of that did it.
If the file is on a server - can you see who's had access to it? maybe 'last saved by' or something

Yes, that was my question, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it or
join everything I want joined.

Yes it is on a server, and there are two others using files from the
server. I'll have to check with them.(don't think it was them though) I
have exploded a block when inserting into the drawing, is it possible to
explode everything in the drawing that way?

Hi,

>> I guess I'll just have to deal with it

I would look for backups to get a state that was not exploded.

>> or join everything I want joined

_JOIN or creating blocks, both could make it better structured.

It's possible that you accidentally selected more things than just your block before you ran the explode command. No way of knowing now.
To join the lines back into polylines should be fairly simple (JOIN command or PEDIT>select multiple>Join).
I don't know of a way to un-explode the dimensions apart from redrawing but maybe some other person will have a clever lisp or script to do that

Thanks for the help. I'm thinking a backup is my best solution.

Thanks, I'm thinking I'll see if I can get a good backup without having to
redraw too much. But yes the PEDIT will come in handy if I do it that way

So when I try to restore an older drawing I get this error    " One or more object in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created."          any ideas on a fix for this?

Hi,

>> when I try to restore an older drawing I get this error

That might be the reason why anyone tried to explode all objects to get rid of the message.

If you upload the dwg-file and let us know which version of AutoCAD you are using we might be able to get this dwg working.

If you have a vertical product (AutoCAD Mechanical, Autodesk Civil 3D, ...) or if you have applications working inside of AutoCAD then please let us know that too!

This happens to me when I open the drawing made in AutoCAD Mechanical with Basic AutoCAD. So make sure to open it with the same version used to draw it.
