When saving to 2010 and reopening text vanishes and hatch is visually broken

I currently work with a person who uses autocad 2010 and whenever i email him my drawings, i save it as 2010. But problems have been occuring lately when i get the file back from him (still in 2010) and reopen it on 2016, the Hatch layer goes from a solid gradiated to a fractal, and the text which has a mask behind it, becomes flipped so that the text looks like it ends up behind the mask. The text will outline itself if i hover the mouse over it.

I have been looking for solutions to this problem and have tried the "fill" command to no avail.

Hi,

welcome @forums.autodesk.com!

What does command _AUDIT report?
Did the other user touch these objects/modified them in any way? If not (and if that is not necessary for him/her) then it would better to save your drawing back to 2010, but this other user should only use this drawing as an XRef.

At least the DWG 2010 format is 7 years old, some of the new objects are not really convertible to 2010 to make it editable.

Hello jthomas, and welcome to the Forums!

It is difficult to diagnose the issue just from screenshots.

Can you please upload a drawing that shows the problem?

The first question that comes to mind is, was this same methodology you are using now working before with the same elements?

Did anything change on your system or your partner's system that might have affected either end of the workflow?

I look forward to your reply.

The problem seems to fix itseld when i completely close out of autocad and then repoen the program and files. I'm wondering if the problem is with the program itself and not the file. I do not use any LISPs or addons.

Hi jthomas;

I think Alfred has a good idea in that checking the drawing would be a good starting place.

Based on your last post though, it seems like maybe there is some corruption somewhere, either in the AutoCAD program or in Windows.

You might want to try creating a new Windows user, then login and work in that profile for a while to see if the problem returns.

Please post back and let me know how that goes and we can figure out next steps based on your findings.

Use AECTOACAD command instead of "saveas" to properly knock the file down to 2010dwg format and it should solve the problems assuming it's not a simple task of your recipient adjusting their CANNOSCALE variable.

I agree that exporting is the proper way to save to previous versions. I don't even know why the option to "save as" to previous versions is even considered viable. Export will remove any properties having to do with newer features that may not be available or compatiable with older versions. "Save as" will not.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

@Anonymous

Have you had a chance to check out whether a new Windows user profile fixes the issue?

Alternatively, you could try a quick Reset AutoCAD to defaults to see if that resolves the problems.
