What program should I use

I am trying to convince my boss to invest in this product.  We are a crane company and would primarily use this product to create 3D lift plans.  What product should I use?

For 3D designs, I would recommend Autodesk Inventor Professional.

I might disagree JC depending on how detailed the lift plan is. I'm a little familiar with lift plans and, if I'm not mistaken, it's a matter of determining max/min swing radius based on surrounding obstructions. It seems that a whole lot of detail wouldn't be necessary. AutoCAD will fit the bill. However, if you need a lot of detail, I would agree that Inventor may be the way to go. Also, just as an FYI. We do 3d scanning which allows for detailed sight survey in a matter of hours. This could be very helpful for lift plans. However, it can be a considerable investment in software, hardware, and training. You also have the option of farming the scanning out to a subcontractor on an as needed basis. Just my humble opinion.
