Hi Walter,

It appears that you are trying to use a realistic background in a render with a model created in Inventor. If you can attach your file I can take a look to see if I can make any suggestions on how you can get a nicer quality rendering.

Thanks for taking a look here, John

Situation is a bit different, original files were ACAD. They can be downloaded here:

http://www.excitech.co.uk/resources.asp?rs=2298

A description from ExciTech is starting here:

http://www.excitech.co.uk/blog/index.php/2015/08/24/real-backgrounds-in-autocad-2016-part-1/

Most obvious for me was, that in ACAD DWG Realistic visual style Material Chrome polished shows up only black, as can be seen in the first screenshot of my entry in Inventor General discussion. Why does it appear that way? The rendering in ACAD shows normal, same as the imported ACAD DWG into Inventor (No Render, only placed in an IBL environment.

Thanks for hints, if Realistic look of Chrome Polished can be set up better.

Walter

Hi @WHolzwarth,

I going to spend some time on this but one of my 3DS MAX colleagues suggested that the chrome doesn't have anything to reflect. So, just for grins, I placed a cylinder in the model and did a quick render. Sure enough, the chrome definitely takes on a different appearance.

I will continue to play with this but thought that might give you something to think about as well.

Hmm, John. The render from ACAD looks very good, as can be seen below.

But now look at that, what's named as Realistic Style in ACAD.

All Chrome polished faces are showing black.

And that's how it's looking in Inventor Realistic Visual style, after importing the ACAD DWG into an IBL environment, not rendered. Faces in Chrome polished are looking ok again. But sad to see, that other faces changed their look, like the bike's frame.
