Viewport layer overides problem with legacy hidden

Strange problem with Autocad 2017:

When I do a viewport color overrides for layers, it works only when I am in wireframe.

Example: a Layer is in RED.  In a viewport, I select the layer and put viewport color overrides so it will be BLUE.

In the properties manager for the viewport, the shade plot is settled to wireframe

On my screen or when I print, the layer will be as expected in BLUE.

I change the properties for the viewport so the shade plot is set to 3d Hidden or to Legacy Wireframe.

On my screen the layer is still in BLUE.  But when I print, it is in RED.

The ONLY THING that was changed is the shade plot option in the viewport properties.

This was not happening when I was working with autocad 2013 or 2014.

A friend tried and it happens as well on his autocad 2016.

It happens for all layers.

If I create a new drawing from an original autocad template, it does not happen.  But for all the drawings I’ve been working on for a while, it happens.

Please upload your drawing as well as the CTB/STB you have assigned to that layout.

Also let us know which service pack you do have installed for your AutoCAD 2015.

I just added a drawing and a PDF of that drawing.  It is even wierder than I though: the same layers are not the same color in one viewport.

New thing.  If I start a drawing with the Acad.dwt template, it does not happen the same way: The problem happens with conceptual view but not with legacy hidden.

Hi,

objects plotted by viewports with visual styles <> "2D Wireframe" or any of the "Legacy ..." shade plot settings do not see the layer color overrides, that was discussed already here (however, I can't find the thread now). I would say that is not the result expected, but a known behaviour.

Strange for me is the lower left viewport showing objects in the same layer in different colors ... I have looked into it, but not found a reason why AutoCAD does that. If nobody else here in the forum has an idea about that I would forward it to the AutoCAD support.

Sorry not to be helpful, - alfred -

Well I am sorry that AutoCAD downgraded since 2012.

For sure in 2012, it was something I did frequently with success.

In the joined PDF, all the original drawing was in 10 very differently colored layers.  And I could print everything in gray and black, to enhance what I wanted the to be the important details of my layout. (on page one, the ladder is in black, all the rest is in grey in the PDF.   Meanwhile in the model space,  all the layers were in GREEN, RED, MAJENTA, CYAN, ORANGE...)

It is odd that the layouts now are not ''what you see is what you get.''

Do somebody at the forum still has access to AutoCAD 2012?  Could somebody have a look with my drawing what color it gets out of the printer when it goes though autocad 2012?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting your question and files here in the community. This is indeed an issue with recent versions of AutoCAD that has already been reported to the development team. I've linked your case to that open issue to demonstrate the need for a fix.

3D Solids and Block References are affected differently by this issue, which is why you see difference results in the viewport that's set to "Legacy Hidden".

If you adjust the Visual Style of the viewport to "Hidden", and then adjust the Shadeplot setting for that viewport to "As Displayed", it will plot correctly.

This is the only workaround I've found as well, which you mentioned in your original post.

Well, having to use the ''As displayed'' option is not the optimal solution.

When you do a ''publish'' with 20 pages of different views, clicking all the viewports and do the hide command in some, and view as wireframe in others and view as conceptual in few of them, it can be long and non-efficient.

Especially when you have to reprint everything just because you changed only one type of bolt in your drawing.  Doing a new publish was a fast and easy job beforehand.

Nevertheless, I am happy to learn that your development team is on the issue.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem, though some objects will change color but some doesn't?

Hope you will get this working soon because my AutoCAD often crashes when a drawing contains multiple viewports and using "Hidden mode" As displayed.

Best Regards,

David

Has there been a solution provided for this yet?  It still shows too many lines crossing or on top of each other for it to work for me.  Help!
