VIEWBASE Line Colours

VIEWBASE Line Colours

Afternoon,

I'm not sure if this is even possible using VIEWBASE, but thought this would be the place to find out. We are a scaffolding firm and use AutoCad 3D to generate models of our scaffolds. Before using 3D, we would assign various parts of the scaffold different colours (by layer) i.e bracing would be red, boards would be brown, etc.

Now that we have moved over to 3D, assigning the colours and materials is fine when in the 3D model itself, however it's when we go to plot the model into a 2D layout drawing we have problems. VIEWBASE is the go to command as it allows sections and details very easily which is perfect. However, none of the assigned layer colours are showing up in the viewbase view, and when I choose the "Shaded" option as the view, the colours come out very odd (grey and light blue).

Does anyone know if we can show the layers colours on the VIEWBASE views? Or do I need to use viewports or some other command to show this?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Rory

Hi, Great news that you use ViewBase! Each element of these newer commands creates a new layer. Have a look at your layers and notice the new layers that are created by using ViewBase, Section, Detail. Simply change the color of those layers and the lineweights and you will get what you seek on the Layout views.
Of course dimensioning layers should be formatted similarly to the "MD_Annotation" and "MD_Hatching" layers.
You can further manage all settings for these view commands in the available style managers at the far right of the "Layouts" ribbon.

I really like using the Viewbase command but it does have some limitations as you have seen.

One workaround that I've used is after creating the layout with Viewbase is I use the EXPORTLAYOUT command which creates a new drawing of the layout contents. In the new drawing I'm able to change the individual object properties as needed - each view comes in as a block and needs exploding. The downside to doing this is losing the dynamic view linking to the model.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for this, thats a handy workaround if we're stuck. Its a real shame this wasn't part of the feature as it means we just can't create out drawings in 3D efficiently. Hopefully its something they can include in the future.

Thanks again,

Rory
