Video Card Question

Hi All, We recently replaced the only AutoCAD 2008 machine in our company with a new one, and are now having issues where regeneration of drawings take a long time. The old machine was running an Intel Core 2 6600 at 2.4, 4 gigs of RAM. The new one runs a Core 2 Duo E6550 at 3.33, 4 gigs memory (Precision 390 to T3400). Based just on that, we would not expect to have this issue. I'm speculating however on the suitability of the new video card. The old machine was running a Quadro FX 550. The new one runs a Quadro NVS 290. This was never considered before swapping them out. We do have the latest drivers from NVIDIA on the new machine, but if the card is just unsuitable, that won't help much. I'm feeling very out of my element here (more of a networking guy), but I've been tasked with figuring this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will provide as much additional information as I can upon request.

Hi,

You are sure to have the settings (like support-paths, path to plotter-setttings/PC3, path to plotstyles/CTB/STB, ...) setup correctly and all these directories exists (and have valid files there)?

Just one example that could happen: on your old system you have a PC3-file setup to plot to a plotter HP1055, now e.g. the plotter is not installed but the PC3-file exists ==> so every time AutoCAD scans through validity of settings it always searches for a plotter HP1055.

I would verify the performance:

  • using a new AutoCAD-profile (with default settings)
  • using AutoCAD with another Windows-User-Account
  • using a new drawing

...any difference?

Thanks for the feedback. He had tried these things but didn't find success. We did have success though, by simply reinstalling the program through the Windows Add/Remove program segment of the control panel. Took a while, but it fixed our issue. Must have just been some corrupted files.
