Very Slow Switching between Model and Paper Space

Hello,

So one of my coworkers is having issues switching between model and paper space. His computer has the same specs as everyone else, he does not have any background programs running, and I changed his computer from Windows Aero to Windows Basic. Everything else in autocad works fine, he is just having the issue of switching between paper and model space. It takes 20+ seconds sometimes. Any ideas how to fix this?

Verify that the below option is set, within the OPTIONS dialog.

Do the drawings that take longer to switch tabs, have more layout tabs in them?

Hi,

there may be some missing files/folders/plotters/ctb or stb that can be responsible for performance issues.

First at all: login to that workstation with another Windows user login and see if that happens again or not.

It's also important to know, if that happens only for some specific drawings or also new ones.

When you disconnect the workstation from network ... same issue?

At least (for now) open the plotter manager, and for all items you see in that explorer window: double click them each and see if there raises an error or warning, if not close it and continue with the next link/ctb/stb.

Some have maybe 2 or 3 layouts, but almost all of our drawings only have 1 layout.

They are also having this problem when opening a new drawing, autocad will freeze up everytime.

Another thing to look at is the scale list for the drawing.

You can review / reset the scales with the SCALELIST command.  If there are alot of scales, try resetting it.

Hi,

Also when you login with another Windows user?

Then go the way with the plotter manager.

And additionally: start command _OPTIONS, go to tab "Files" and go through all items and verify that each of the paths really exists.

Verify you have a certified graphics driver for the version of AutoCAD that you have.

Something is unique or different with this one user/PC if no one else has AUtoCAD freezing up 'everytime' they open a file.

If another user logs into this PC and uses AutoCAD, do they have the same problems?

I've noticed that if Layer Manager is open there can be significant lag between switching between paper and model space.

This helped tremendously, once I closed the layer manager it was a quick switch. Thanks!!
