Very annoying delay in TextEdit command

Hello everyone

I had an older version of AutoCAD 2024 and with it I had an issue with Copy command. Then, lately I installed a newer version of AutoCAD 2024 (version 2024.1.2), and everything is basically perfect, including the Copy command and all, BUT one bug that I spotted right away is with the TextEdit command. Usually, when we double press a text item so we can edit its content, it takes less than 1 second to happen and you simply edit the text content and press enter to save changes. In this AutoCAD version, very unfortunately, whenever I'd double click any text object (either a text word or a text number), when I wanna change it, it takes up to 5 seconds to get into the text editing thing.... AutoCAD literally FREEZES for those 4-5 seconds and then TextEdit works and I can change the content, but this is really really bothering me, as I very often have to edit text objects and so I wanted to ask you guys if you know why this delay bug occurs and if there's any way to fix it...??

Alternatively, is there a newer version of AutoCAD (newer than 2024.1.2) that fixes this bug??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hello.

Thanks for your reply.

So today I indeed checked and saw that AutoCAD 2025 is out there since like 2 weeks ago, so I went ahead and clean-installed it after clean-uninstalling the previous 2024 version. Unfortunately, same problem. When I double click any text object to change its content, autocad like "freezes" for like 4-5 seconds and the the textedit works on the object. I have no idea where this delay comes from.

Is there any solution to this? If not, I may have to downgrade from autocad 2025 latest version to older versions such as autocad 2022... which I wouldn't wanna do unless really necessary..

Thanks for anyone's help in advance..

@JamieLeeAutodesk If you have this issue in 2024 and 2025, I doubt it will disappear in 2023 or 2022: go ahead and try those when you can.

Did you by chance add a significant amount of new fonts to AutoCAD's search paths? SHX or TTF

Hello. I just installed autocad 2022, just to see. The issue does NOT occur in this version. HOWEVER, I forgot how slowly the graphics work in autocad 2022 (like the Pan command for example) in comparison to autocad 2024/2025.

I have no idea what you mean by "a significant amount of new fonts to AutoCAD's search paths? SHX or TTF", so I guess I haven't done anything like that...

Basically, what I do right now is install different versions of Autocad 2024 until these issues don't occur... It's pretty silly, but it's the only way I may bypass this issue..

If anyone knows how to resolve this issue within the autocad program, that'll be amazing..

P.s.: in autocad 2022, it takes less than a second for TextEdit command to work when double-clicking a text object. So just updating that information...

Thanks for trying it out.

Did you get a chance to try the solutions posted in the link I provided in my first reply? it goes beyond the too-many-fonts topic.

Is your 2024 current? 2024.1.3 I believe is where it should be, ABOUT command inside your 2024 program will confirm.

Here is how to open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help:

Alright so I just uninstalled everything and installed autocad 2024 (v2024.1.3) and everything works perfectly, including the TextEdit command. So I guess version 2024.1.2 had that issue, as well as autocad 2025, but autocad 2024.1.3 does not have this issue, so I'm gonna stick to it then...

Problem resolved then

Thanks for the help anyhow 🙂

Actually I DO think adding many fonts into the Fonts folder in program files may have something to do with it. If that's what you meant. The thing is, I've been using these 2000 fonts for so many years. They never ever did any issue before. I'm gonna try installing autocad 2025 again, but this time delete fonts that I don't really need.. maybe it'll help...

Thanks anyway

Hey again. I'm sorry for the headache... I opened the link you sent but only see "contact autodesk support". is that what you meant?

I examined it all from the beginning. Re-installed autocad 2025 and BEFORE copying-pasting all my fonts into the program files fonts folder, the TextEdit command was fast. Then I pasted my fonts into the folder and now the issue is back again and TextEdit takes around 4-5 seconds to enter a text object (not as many fonts as before. I used to copy paste around 2000 fonts and now I only did like 1200 fonts)...

The thing I can't understand is- WHY would it happen? I mean, I would copy-paste all my fonts ALWAYS.... in whatever autocad version I used in the past. Why now putting fonts into the fonts folder makes this TextEdit bug?

If anyone has an answer/fix, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I have 2024.1.2 and I'm not seeing that issue with MTEXT or SINGLE LINE text. I say this just in case it could be something else. I did have a problem in 2023 version when I edited MTEXT my upper Menu Bar would would resize itself to very large.
