using SCULPT, why isn't this a watertight surface?

I am learning 3D modeling and wanted to experiment with the Sculpt command.  In the basic Autocad info it shows multiple surfaces that cross over each other in kind of a sloppy way being something you can use Sculpt to convert to a unioned (?) solid (trimming away the excess parts) as long as there are no gaps.

 

So in trying it out, I created a hollow tube using the loft command and then created two morphed hexagons by creating a heaxonal surface then converting it to a nurbs surface so that I could stretch it.  I intersected the tube with the two hexagons so that there are no gaps, which to me seems like that qualifies as being watertight, but when I run Sculpt, it says that it cannot detect any watertight surfaces.

 

Any thoughts?

Surfsculpt doesn't like the NURBS surfaces you have intersecting the tube.  Can you replace them with networked or lofted surfaces?

I was trying to experiment with using a morphed (instead of flat) shape to intersect it with...the loft can do something close enough for my experimenting purposes.  I will give it a try.  Thanks  🙂

Using surface loft command to create my intersecting shapes instead of a nurbs surface worked for being able to them convert it to a solid using surfsculpt.  Thanks  🙂
