Using autocad viewports

I am using autocad 2d for designing a piece of machinery i want to build and I need your input on how to do some

things that I am sure can be done by autocad ( I am using the current version( 2019 i think))

Using model space i am designing an assembly which has many parts.

At present i put each part on it's own layer but this leads to very roundabout activating layers lots of use of zoom before I can print a single part.

is it possible to put each part on a seperate page which is kept up to date as modifications are made to the main

drawing on model space ?

I imagine that each part should probably be on a seperate layout ?

how is this done ?

If changes are made to the layout will these changes automatically update the model space  drawing

all advice and sugestions will be gratefully accepted

Hello Solmanu,

were you able to find the filter layer called mixer ?

I downloaded the file and when I opened it- the filter i made is at

home > layers > layer properties > listed under filters as "mixer"

thank you for your .gif. Unfortunenately I am unable to read it because

it goes to fast and the definition on my screen is not that good so I

cannot read the contents of the dropdowns.

Please try again- i would really appreciate it

Please share a screenshot of your  Program window while HOME tab and filter is current,

And command: ABOUT dialog is open!

Perhaps you take the wrong file after downloading?

In Autocad 2020 i could not see a filter, and s.faris also not.

BUT.. this is not your problem.

Objects..

Layerfilter have nothing to do with objects and Layerproperties,

layerfilters are only a helper to select layers and filter the layerlist.

If you want to have all layers freeze, except the Mixer* layers (and one of the Mixer* Layers is the current layer),

Yes, you have to freeze all layers and thaw the Mixer layers

Your choose how to do that.

For my standard layers i use my own Button "Only Mixer-Layer ON",

behind the Icon you will find a macro like that:

^C^C^C_.-LAYER;_thaw;"Mixer*";_make;"Mixer Shaft";_freeze;~Mixer*;;

or for invisible, but editable and deleteable, ON/OFF

okok, a fake, i would never use blanks in Layernames

is NO filter defined.

If you upload the correct file then, yes - do it.

For drop-downs, you need to active this option.
Go to LAYERproperties-Manager, upper right corner, there is a "Tool"-Button,
in this dialog near to the end you will find this setting.. filtre apply to..

I guess the standard setting for this is ON, but perhaps on your program it is set to off, change it to ON.

Made myself and you can do it yourself..
For example: Go to Toolpalette [CTRL+3], Tab Commands
Copy&paste this sample [Right click context menu on this item]
Rightclick on the new one, properties.. there you can add my sample macro

I guess to know your mistake!

Perhaps you set a temp filter for the layerproperties palette?

In the upper right corner is a field where you can set a filter "mix*"

but this is temporary in your program session, not stored in the

DWG and ONLY for this palette.

We talking about "named layerfilters" like the standard one on the left side of your palette, "all used layer".

Hello Solmanu !! thanks this seems to have done the trick

two things that I did which may have been influential.

1.In the "settings" gear on the top right of the layer properties manager screen I ticked :-

"new layer notification " ON;

"evaluate new layers added to drawing"ON ;

"Isolate layer settings" "lock and fade" ON;

"dialog settings" both ON

2. After defining the new layer "mixer" - rt clk new layer > isolate group>all viewports

Now it seems to do what I am after

so thank you for all the help it is really appreciated and the result will make my autocad

experience mush more useful
