Use AutoCAD mechanical content parts in plain Autocad?

Is it possible to access the Acad Mechanical Content parts library through plain Autocad? We have the entire product suite installed, so while we use plain jane autocad for day to dy drafting, we would like to be able to access the ACADM library for structural shapes, fasteners, etc.. Acad Mechanical 2015 is installed.

If not, is there a library some where that can be loaded into Design Center?

AEC content from verticals tend to be unique to those verticals: since you can't edit these objects in plain AutoCAD, you'll just be handling loose components no smarter than regular blocks too.

If there are libraries for purchase, you'll find them at the Autodesk App store and through Google Search: ensure you are specific about the types of libraries you need, simply "mechanical" for a search term may not get you a focused list.

Thanks, Dean

By saying "you'll just be handling loose components " this implies that there is a way to access these "loose objects." How to do this? We don't need smart objects, we just need a way to generate profiles for structural shapes, get screw diameters, head sizes, etc.l so they don't need any intelligence and would most frequently not actually be used directly.

If you have MECH already, have it drop some of those blocks you crave into a file. Save that file.
Now have plain AutoCAD use ADCENTER to access those blocks and test out for yourself.

You'll find out more that way that asking online.

PS: read your MECH end user license agreement about whether you can do all of that while you test it out.

Thanks -

It looks like the Mechanical library works the same way as Inventor's Content center, where objects are generated from a template (if not previously created) so they are not really "blocks" in the traditional sense - at least that's what I'm perceiving.

So, I will go back to my more labor intensive way of creating an Inventor assembly with all the Content Center parts I need at the moment and placing them in plan, elevation, etc. views, putting a view of that assembly on an idw and then exporting that idw at full scale to an Autocad dwg file, and making blocks of those.

Any easier workflow gladly entertained!
