Updating Indexes for block *Model_Space

I get this message when saving a drawing (in Plant 3D 2018): Updating Indexes for block *Model_Space.

It is a drawing with x-refs in it (overlay). When i want to open a loaded x-ref i get the message that the drawing is write-protected.

I have read possible solutions on the forum, but none of them is a solution for me?

Does anyone have a solution?

Hey @Jan-TSpD

The most likely option when the message pops up is that the drawing is being worked on or is opened by another person in the network or you are actually working on the drawing in another computer within the network.

Do any of these scenarios suit your current situation?

You could save the drawing in your machine (saveas) and i believe this would solve your issue.

Hello,

i have all drawings on a local drive and work alone on this projectdirectory with no links to a networkdrive.

Hi,

>> I get this message when saving a drawing (in Plant 3D 2018):

>> Updating Indexes for block *Model_Space.

Well it's just a message, not an error, what would you like to have?

So I guess these dwg-files are stored in a folder, that is

  • write-protected
  • you have no permissions to open that file in write-mode

...both can be verified with your IT-admin.

Well it's just a message, not an error, what would you like to have? Saving takes a lot of time because of this.

So I guess these dwg-files are stored in a folder, that is

  • write-protected, not write protected
  • you have no permissions to open that file in write-mode, i do have permission

...both can be verified with your IT-admin.

PS it only happens with this Plant 3D project, not with other projects / drawings.

Hi,

>> Saving takes a lot of time because of this.

  • Well, then please detach the XRef's, close and reopen the dwg-file, if saving again uses long time I would:
use command _WBLOCK with option Entire Drawing to create a new dwg-file
  • use command _WBLOCK with manually selected objects from the modelspace

... does that help, do the new drawings work better when saving?

>> not write protected

>> i do have permission

Can you save the dwg with a new name in the same folder?
If yes, run this save-as with a new name, delete the original file, rename the new file to the original name ... better?

Hi,

>> none of the mentioned options solves the problem.

The question about "indexing ..." or the question about readonly-files?

Hi,

>> the question about "indexing"..

But you mentioned the XRef-readonly too 😉

Is it possible in Plant3D to use copy & paste to transfer the objects from one dwg-file to a new one?

If yes, does that help? And as you are using Plant3D ... have you asked in the forum about Plant3D >>>here<<<?

Hi,

But you mentioned the XRef-readonly too . Still having this problem. When i close the drawing with the x-refs i can open them without the read-only.

Is it possible in Plant3D to use copy & paste to transfer the objects from one dwg-file to a new one? Yes, that is possible.

If yes, does that help? No. And as you are using Plant3D ... have you asked in the forum about Plant3D >>>here<<<? Not yet.

Hi,

solved this problem: When i close the drawing with the x-refs i can open them without the read-only.

Variable XLOADCTL = 2 solves the problem
