Unresponsive when typing in text command

Unresponsive when typing in text command

Hello,

I am having trouble with using certain tasks while typing them into the command bar. For example, I will select the dimension tool, type in 5.5', and the dimension line will choose to go to 5' instead of 5.5'. Another example, I will select the polyline tool, click to make starting point, type in 10' and the polyline will not be created in the DWG. (This also happens with the line tool). I also cannot type in a number for the offset tool to offset a line.

I think this has to do with the command bar not accepting the text I am trying to get the DWG to do.

Can someone help with this problem?

Thanks!

HI @Anonymous,

This is hard for me to envision as the command line really is the heart of working in AutoCAD in my opinion.  As you type in the command line, do you see what you are typing get replaced with suggested alternatives? I am wondering if your INPUTSEARCHOPTIONS need to be changed.

Is it possible that the drawing is not setup to use Architectural feet but Decimal?

Hi,

try to dock the command-line instead of the one-line option.

Does this happen in ALL files, or just this one file that you are in?

What does -DWGUNITS command report as your units settings in the file?

Hi @john.vellek

What's happening is very weird. It is hard to explain honestly!

I attached a snapshot of my screen of what pops up when I type in Input Search Options.

I don't know if this will help you help me understand better.

Thanks!

Hi @pendean

This happens in all of the files I work in. I believe my unit settings in the file are set up for inches.

Sorry this doesn't help much!

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the screen capture. Your settings match mine.

Please show me your UNITS window too.  Are you set to Architectural or something else?

Please stretch your command line to more than a couple rows of text. Then as you type a distance, keep an eye on the command line.  Does it show any errors or differences from what you just typed?

Hi @john.vellek

Here is a snapshot of my units.

Also, I attached a snapshot of an example of me trying to do a polyline. It shows "20" on there twice because the first attempt didn't actually hold and display the line on my screen.

Hi @Anonymous,

Let's backtrack a little bit please.

Which version of AutoCAD are you using and did you recently install it / migrate from an older version?

Do you use any third -party add ins or applications?

If you log in as a different user on your computer does this still occur?

@john.vellek

Sure! I am using AutoCAD 2018. I have been using this for quite a while now, maybe 10 months? I haven't had these issues until very recently.

I do use CAP 2020 / CAPdesigner with AutoCAD.

I have not tried logging in and out as a different user.

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

Interesting that this just started.  I have seen quite a few oddities with CAP 2020 installed.  Is it possible to uninstall just long enough to see if that corrects the problem?  I understand it is likely critical to your work but it would be a very important test to see if there is something in the CAP settings that is affecting command input.

Hi @Anonymous,

Did removing Cap help to resolve this? If so, the next step would be to visit their support site to see if this is a known issue.

Hi @john.vellek

Thank you for your assistance and help. I tried removing CAP and CAD and reinstalling both of them. This seemed to have worked! Thanks for the idea.
