Underline and Overline Settings

I've been digging around to see if there are any settings to adjust the vertical distance of an overline/underline from MTEXT.   The reason I want to do this is for our as-built drawings, we strike out text that's changed and put the correct text above or below it.  There can be hundreds of small text changes in a set of as-built plans, so I'm trying to figure out a way to not have to draw a line through the text and then put MTEXT below it .  It kind of hit me that I could use overline/underline if I could adjust the distance.  It looks like the distance from the top or bottom of the text to the overline or underline is 0.04.  If I could adjust that to 0.085, it would be perfect!

Has anyone else run across a need like this or come up with a solution?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!Text.jpg

There is a strikethrough option built into mtext. When editing just highlight the text and there is a button on the ribbon like shown in image below.

Thanks for your answer! As part of our as-built's, we don't edit the existing text. Most of our text is either in model space or XREF'd in and the as-built text is put on the sheet in paper space only. So, using a strikethrough would require changeing spaces or opening the XREF and editing the text there. That being said, drawing a line through the text in paper space is a quicker solution.

You can experiment with the mtext property known as Line space factor.

The line space factor won't give you what you need because what you want it super-duper specific. Using the line space factor might require you to use a DASHED line instead of a solid CONTINUOUS line. I don't think it matters though, because you're splitting hairs. If you insist on increasing the space above or below your lines, use trial-and-error doing this:

Select your new multiline text=>got to Properties Palette=>Increase the factor to make a wider space between the new text and the line.

<<You can try using a continuous line vs. using a dashed line. Either way, use multi-text and put the strikethrough one line 1 and the new text on line 2. Or put the new text on line 1 and the strikethrough on line 2. Putting the strikethrough on line 1 or line 2 depends on whether you want an underline or an overline.>>

Alternatively, you can select each individual text object=>highlight it with your mouse=>click STRIKETHROUGH. You'll get the cleanest and bestest looking strikethrough without using a hack.

How about using Mtext in two lines, one of them being some underscore characters for the strikethrough part?  Then you can adjust the line spacing factor:

Pick on More... to get at the ability to set it to some multiplier other than the few listed.

@JeffJohnson525 you want to create a dynamic block where you can shrink/stretch a line as short or as long as you need it, with editable text below it to do with as you wish.

The dedicated DYNBLOCK forum, if you need assistance tweaking your new creation, is over here https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/dynamic-blocks-forum/bd-p/154

Happy Cadding!

This is definitely something that I've been considering.  It would give me the option to put the line above or below my text and I also have cases where I need it next to the text too.  Thanks for the link to the Dynamic Block forum.  If I decide to go this route, I'll definitely post it up if I have any issues.  Thanks!
