UCS World Origin

Hi, I have a question regarding the UCS world origin. My ucs icon does not seem to be at the world origin 0,0 when I double-click the MMB, which supposedly should zoom to extent and place the ucs world origin at the bottom left corner of the model space when I have nothing on the model space. The reason I can tell it is not at the 0,0 is through switching on the coordinates and move my mouse cursor to the ucs icon. But funny enough when I start drawing and put in 0,0, it does start from the ucs world origin. Does any one have any clue to what acutally happened? or does not happen to anyone else? Thanks.

Regards,

Gatz

Command: UCS world

and it is wcs, doesn't matter your coordinate informations, but

Maybe you're not looking straight at the plane?

Command: PLAN current

Read about and experiment with the options in the UCSICON command, as well as the UCSICON System Variable.

Zooming to the Extents when there is nothing drawn does not necessarily include the origin.  It Zooms to the drawing limits.  By default in the basic AutoCAD drawing template files, 0,0 is the lower left corner of the limits, but it can differ -- 0,0 can be entirely outside the limits, in the middle of their area, anywhere.  And Zooming that way does not put the lower left corner at the lower left of the drawing area, but rather centers the area of the drawing limits in the visible drawing area, so their lower left corner can be inboard along the bottom edge, or upward along the left edge, depending on the proportions of the limits compared to those of the visible drawing area.

The ucs origin (0,0) will be on the screen, but not the ucs icon. The icon needs a little space to the border of the screen. If you pan the origin too close to the border of the screen, the icon will jump into the lower left corner (with a small distance to the border of the screen), even if origin (0,0) is still on the screen.

That's only half of the truth: it is only correct if the lower left corner of the limits is set to 0,0, otherwise will the lower left corner of the limits be the lower left pixel on your screen.

Hi thanks for posting this video, which is helpful.

In your video, as you moved your cursor to the bottom left corner of the screen closer to the UCS, why was the X and Y coordinates are not showing anywhere near 0,0, my company template has the same issue. But when I opened up the AutoCAD's own manufacturing template, it's a totally different case, I am just wondering there might be some system variables that's not set to the 0,0,0? Sorry for being pedantic about it, not a big issue.

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

Also I tried to name another UCS based on the 0,0,0  and even though the ICON is missing the square shape at the X and Y coordinates, it does show 0,0,0 when I moved my cursor close to the origin. Don't know why. Thanks

The small square only indicates (says the user), that the WCS is current. If it is missing the user knows, that another, an user defined coordinate system is current.

What else do you expect? I don't understand what you're reclaiming about. The origin IS the 0,0,0 coordinate and if you move the cursor to the origin (as you wrote) what else than 0,0,0 do you want to see?

And if you are "in luck" than the ucs icon is placed at this point. but only if the system variable UCSICON was set to 3 AND if possible. That means only if the origin (the coordinate 0,0,0) is inside the screen and far enough from the border the icon is placed exactly at the origin, otherwise the icon always jumps near to the lower left screen's corner.
