Hi, To get a better command of using your UCS's and Views you should knowa few typical actions associated with using the methods on the ribbon and elsewhere.

I'm showing the default screen layout for the 3D Modeling Workspace but the following actions apply to these commands no matter which Workspace and ribbon layout you might use.
The Coordinates panel is for controlling the UCS and will dictate your working plane no matter which View you are already in. The primary orthographic UCS planes are easily selectable and I encourage students to get very familiar with the other methods of manipulating their UCS (3-point, rotate about axis, etc...). Again, the view is not updated or adjusted by using the commands on the Coordinates panel.
The View panel, on the other hand, can be used to only alter viewing direction or to revise the UCS as the view is altered. The primary orthographic selections will update the UCS to the selected view direction but the isometric choices will not alter the UCS.
Finally, the ViewCube will only change your viewing direction and will not revise the UCS. The little menu under the ViewCube will allow you to return to WCS or a named View & UCS if you have setup any named views.
Again, this is the default behavior for these choices.
BTW... I typically encourage my students to frequently return to WCS between UCS and view changes so they can better track the coordinate system as it changes. The named sides of the ViewCube becomes a great cue for them to verify their expectations and intent for their intended UCS.
Hope this helps,
Blaine
