UCS snapping to objects

My UCS keeps snapping and aligning to the faces of 3D objects. I don't want this to happen, it doesn't happen on my work machine, this is on my home machine, same license.

I have consulted the forum and found:

F6: Dynamic UCS and UCSDetect.

So both of these are the same thing and from what I can tell this sysvar should control whether or not the UCS snaps to a face of a 3D object.

Neither method has any effect. My UCS keeps snapping to the faces.

 

Does anyone have ideas or secret knowledge?

What is your current action, when the UCS snaps to any face? Can you show us a screencast (or try to describe in words) what you are doing?

My first idea while reading your post also was "Dynamic UCS". Are you sure, it is OFF (means UCSDETECT=0)?

Turn OFF 3D Object Snap (F4). Alternatively, you can access 3D osnap from the status bar.

Re the state of Dynamic UCS; I first toggled it with F6 and then used the
'detectucs' command at the command line to verify the state as <0> or <1>.
I then set the state at the command line, ran the command immediately after
to verify the new state. I went through any other combination of using F6
or the command line to change and verify the state.
Result: No perceptible change in the behaviour of the UCS, it continually
shifted to the face of the object that I was trying to manipulate. This
was/is preventing me from performing a stretch on a cylinder in the manner
that I wished to and have done on many occasions.

In the light of a new day I am pretty sure the error is entirely mine and I
was actually trying to manipulate the cylinder in some way different to my
usual method. This is UCS related but I need to establish what I was doing
differently from my usual method with which I have no problems.
