Trim preview keeps freezing my drawings.

I know there is a known issue with 'complex' drawings which can cause trim preview to make the computer lag. However my drawings aren't complicated at all, very simple building floor plans xref'd into my drawing and then i place blocks and simple polylines (straight lines or boxes, nothing with huge amounts of vertices') and not only will it lag, it will completely freeze and lock up with no hope of recovery without killing the process...this is getting very old very quickly...very sick of having to redo 10's of minutes of work at least once a day, simply because the trim command kills the application.

the latest freeze was caused by trimming a straight line with 3 vertices (2 end, one middle) across a spline with 10 vertices spaced out by several meters, the straight line was very much between 2 vertices, so its not an ambiguity thing.

the fix shouldn't be turn off functions this multi-thousand-dollar-a-year application comes built with, if it doesn't work, it should have never been added to the application to begin with.

any replies claiming this is as the solution will not be accepted, so don't bother.

my computer is brand new, 11th gen i7, a 12gb enterprise level graphics card with 32gb of ram on a single stick so its definitely not a fault with the computer.

Hello @MaccyDee

Try typing in the command "COMMANDPREVIEW" and set it to "0". Is it any better now?

HI
in most of the cases when autocad freeze on trim when 2 line have different elevation , or 2 type of line, in your case spline and line, try instead trim to use comands>break, breakatpoint
hope it will help

The feature has been working for thousands of people for many years. When you're done blaming the program you'll need to figure out what's going on your end to cause this.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Greetings @MaccyDee

Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD/LT: see if that helps.

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables all the time.

If still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If still no relief, set COMMANDPREVIEW command  to 0 (that's a zero).

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, and start a support ticket with Autodesk through your subscription portal as explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options#:~....
