Tool Palette groups not saving

We're having an issue in my company where Tool Palette Groups that are created are lost after a few days (the palettes themselves remain).  Our tool palette files are stored on a server for all staff to access but each user is able to create their own groups within the Customize Palettes window.  However, after some amount of time (usually 3-5 days) the group names remain but the palettes have been removed from all groups and I have to then manually add each palette back to the desired group which has become increasingly annoying.  I did save my workspace with the palette groups configured just in case that was a factor.  It made no difference.  Also, the tool palletes file path location is the only one listed in th AutoCAD options.  Any ideas?

Hi @abennett,

I found that sharing tool palettes over the network works well but allowing changes by multiple users not so much.  In this scenario what I have done for my staff is to simply have a master collection of tool palettes than can easily be copied to their workstations. Any time there would be an update to them I could run a batch command to copy the new ones to each workstation. This method not only allows customization on a user level but also protects the master set from being overwritten.

Here is an AKN article that discusses the path for palettes that might be helpful. An another 🙂

Hello @abennett, try this. Setup your palettes in a comfortable position then save as a new workspace. Run that workspace each time you start a new project. If you're using 3RD Party add-on pallets often there is no solution but to contact the creator of the addon and notify them of the issue. Feel free to reply or private message me if you have any further issues.

Thank you for the responses but I'm not sure either really addresses my issue.  I'm not having an issue with the Tool Palettes themselves, it's just with saving and recalling the tool palette groups  Our palette files are stored on the network and are read-only to everyone but myself and one other.  So, we don't have any issues with people over-writing the palettes.  But the frustration/confusion is that I will make a palette group on my workstation and it is recalled as you would expect for several days until all of a sudden all palettes are removed from the groups.  The groups still exist in the Customize Palettes pop-up dialog but I have to manually drag each palette over again to place it in the desired group (again).  This seems to be happening on everyone's computer as well but necessarily at the same time.  If I add palettes to a group, save my workspace and exit I should expect to see that group with the added palettes every time correct?  Or is there something I'm missing? Thanks again for the responses.

Hi andy.s.bennett,

Just for my clarification, are you building the Groups on your workstation and then moving to the network to be shared? Have you tried building them directly in the shared location?

Here are some articles about creating shared Tool Palettes that might offer more insight:

Thanks for all the replies.  However, after much trial and error I think the issue was occurring due to lack of network connectivity.  We've had some random dropouts within our corporate network that causes a loss of connectivity for a few seconds.  Anyway, these blips seemed to be enough to cause the AutoCAD link to our tool palette files which are on our server to be lost.  To fix the issue I would just access a random folder on the serve to ensure connectivity and then re-start AutoCAD and tool palettes and groups were restored.
