Time sensitive Right Click menu not compatible with DROPGEOM

Anonymous
Not applicable

I used my right click for entering commands and repeating last commands and the like.

However there are some commands behind the shortcut menu that I would like easy access too.

Naturally the time sensitive right click seems like the right option for me however whenever I try and hold the right click, the DROPGEOM command activates and wants me to move, copy, or paste the item I have selected..

I have messed around with the time sensitivity but I have not yet been able to trigger the shortcut menu without turning off the right click commands entirely.

Looking for a way to disable the DROPGEOM because I never use it anyways. OR

Looking for a way to enable a Ctrl-Right click to bring up the shortcut menu or something.

Since DROPGEOM uses that mouse button for its needs, there is no ability to dual-function the same button as you desire.

Use one o the other function when you need that right-click button.

If DROPGEOM takes priority on the right click then why is the time sensitive right click even an option?
The time sensitive right click seems clear in its intentions but then just doesn't function how its supposed to at all. Whats the point?

I'm away from AutoCAD until the morning so I can't make any screen shots right now but the time sensitive right click does work. I've been using it for years. In fact, I don't even remember seeing this DROPGEOM that you speak of. Hopefully someone will be around before tomorrow.

Priorities: DROPGEOM when in action takes precedence. It is what it is.

Are you new to AutoCAD? I only ask because in case we need to provide other choices like using actual commands (move/copy/rotate etc.) when your priority need is the sensitive right-click feature.

Man, did you even read my question? I don't want DROPGEOM at all. I perceive it as interfering with the time sensitive right click which I am trying to set up.

Can anyone confirm that they use a quick right click for ENTER, REPEAT, and a time sensitive right click to open the shortcut menu?

When I apply these settings I understand it should happen but when I do a long right click it kicks it over to DROPGEOM instead of the shortcut menu.

Yes, I confirmed it yesterday.

Here are my settings:

ah, but you have shortcut menu selected for editing when an object is selected.

I might mess around with those settings and see if I use the repeat command when an object is selected very often otherwise my work around is no shortcut menu and I just have to go a little bit longer way to the tool I need in there.

However I still don't see how this time sensitive thing is supposed to work. Is there a difference between a quick right click and a 250milisecond one or its just right click for shortcut menu when an item is selected? I feel like there should be a threshold where I can use both commands.

Its on. Still doesn't work.

I'm not crazy right?  As far as I understand you can set up your right click preferences but it really has nothing to do with time sensitivity. I think you're having success with the shortcut menu because you have that one Edit Mode box ticked for shortcut menu.

Should I not be able to have all of those toggled be Repeat Command/Enter and have the 'time sensitive' right click be what triggers the shortcut menu?

When I apply those settings, I can see the "Shortcut menus in drawing area" get unchecked. So, the answer is "No".

Was your time sensitive right click box checked? Mine stays on. These are my settings.

My point is, isnt the idea of time sensitive right click so that you can have the fidelity between these two functions? If you change any of the boxes to 'shortcut menu' then you are just assigning your normal right click to shortcut menu and nothing is time sensitive.

I don't think you are understanding, you can't turn off DROPGEOM: that's your wish and it's still not an option https://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?161657-Disable-DropGEOM and https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoCAD/comments/2okd8l/dropgeom_who_else_hates_this_command/ to link to a few discussion over the years on the topic.

If you want to tell Autodesk all about it, you can do so here https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

I don't think you understand. I. do. not. care. about. DROPGEOM.

I just want a time sensitive right click to open the shortcut menu like the settings suggest is possible.

What I don't understand is why they would design software that fundamentally contradicts itself.

Maybe you need to reinstall your software hen update it: pops up fine here with a slow right-click in 2019.1.2 and 2020.1 in our office.

You do not have repeat last command selected.

Yea, I know what it does, I use that function regularly which is why I have it toggled.

Now, if I would guide your attention to the concept of the time sensitive right click. The idea being that a different type of input would bring about a different result.

IE. a time sensitive push could bring up the shortcut menu instead of the preferred right click commands

Right now there is nothing time sensitive about these options. Its either right click and you get the shortcut or right click and you repeat/enter command. I'm pretty resigned about the whole thing but I think its a pretty broken idea.

Exactly, time sensitive right-clicking simulates tapping <enter>, that's always been the case, there is no new functionality through 2020.1
