Thread Creation - Selecting Base Point - Sweep and Subtract Tools = No thread.

In the attached DWG file for a bolt design, I am attempting to sweep the thread form along the helix using the (1) Sweep tool, then subtracting the helix-thread-form from the major diameter of the cylinder using the (2) Subtract tool.

Some Data:

Radius of cylinder = 8mm

Radius of helix      = 8mm

Pitch of thread     =  2mm

Base of thread form shown to right is 1.75mm = (Pitch - Pitch/8),   60 degree with R=0.28868 fillet at the apex.

Length of cylinder = 50mm

(1) When the thread form is swept along the cyclinder surface at Pitch of 2mm, as base is only 1.75, there would be a gap of P/8 = 0.25mm which is the top of the thread. However, it appears that the thread form corner (intersection with base edge and 60 deg angle to left) cannot be assigned base point status in Autocad 2015 as you could in Autocad 2012. As a result, the thread form is skewed when attached to the helix (Alignment = No).

(2) As a consequence of (1) above, the subtraction of the helix thread form from the diameter of the shaft appears to result in a stripped thread.

Can you please assist me to get it right.

Thank you.

8 -1.3155 = 6.6845   = inner cylinder

threads outside and add then trim chamfers.

look up working ieht the UCS and aligning it to objects.  That is what makes sweep work correct

Thanks Parkr4st. I will need to digest.
