Text alignment/justification issue - unwanted offset to the side

Hi,

Multiple people in my office have been having issues with the justification on single-line text elements when using AutoCAD 2023 or 2024. Note, this issue does not seem to occur on version 2022, so that is the version we have typically been using.

The issue doesn't happen all the time in 2023/2024, but sometimes the text will randomly offset from it's supposed justification point, without any obvious input from the user or change in properties.

An example is show below. This text is supposed to be justified bottom centre, and it previously was displaying correctly, but since one of our staff edited the file using AutoCAD 2024, it now displays the text offset to the left of the justification point.

As soon as you double click the text to edit it, it snaps back to its correct justification, so it's easy enough to fix each individual occurrence, but I have not been able to find a fix to prevent it happening in the first place, short of simply remaining on 2022 and not using any newer versions of AutoCAD.
This issue also seems to affect attributes in blocks as well, though I don't recall seeing any instances of multi-line text being affected. Attributes are not as easy to fix when this issue occurs with them, because double-clicking them does not have the same effect as it does on single-line text.

I have attached a DWG file with an example of the problematic text if that helps with troubleshooting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers, Jonathon

Are all computers set to save to 2018 dwg format?

We don't have many people in the office today, but the three who I checked with all had theirs set to 2018 format. Mine was set to AutoCAD2013/LT2013, though I'm not sure why.

Sometimes when saving down to older formats may cause issues similar to what you’re describing. So first thing to do is to make sure all stations are set to save to 2018 format and see if the problem still occurs. Also it’s a good idea to make sure all stations have the latest AutoCAD updates installed to eliminate that variable from the equation.

Sometimes? Doesn't happen all the time?

Sadly you'll need to dig a bit deeper to find what might actually be a trigger, or let us know how you can repeat it on demand all the time if that is possible.

Is your sample from AutoCAD2022? Can you show us from R2022 that does not do this?

Same problem here! The file fixes itself later. It's frustrating as I'm trying to print a drawing and text is out of alignment for no reason!

I'm using autocad 2026. This seems to have been happening to me after I got some civil 3D plug in. Not sure!

Alright. This problem has been annoying me for a month so far. It was affecting my block's attributes as well! After trying a lot of possible fixes, I was able to identify the problem in the text style. I usually use Arial Narrow; For some reason, the files acted funny and would not treat the style as it should.

Using FONTALT variable and putting my style as default solved the problem. In case there was something in the background happening that I do not understand or couldn't pick. I'll keep an eye for now and give an update.

Possible problem source could be:

  1. Corrupted xref files that can mess with the text style once it is brought the printing file.
  2. Multiple installation of different Autocad versions that resulted in the wrong mapping to the font's file.

I’ve run into similar text-positioning issues in newer AutoCAD versions. Since double-clicking the text fixes the offset, checking the latest 2023/2024 updates and testing the DWG in AutoCAD 2022 could help narrow down whether it’s a version-related bug.

I wonder if it could be the accelerated font feature that was introduced starting in 2025.1 with DirectX 12?  Try setting GPUTEXT2D = 0 to see if that makes a difference.
