System Variable Not Staying Put In System Variable Editor - Express Tool Menu

Visretain

Visretainmode

Xrefoverride

These three variables will not stay put. This issue must have started about a year now.

I used to use my customized LISP to load my variables, but I removed all above three.

I open the System Variable Editor from Express Tools menu, change them there. When I open a drawing, the variable settings will not be what I had set. This issue has been driving me nuts.

Please how can I make sure that all my variables stay put whenever I open a drawing?

Cheers

Hi,

>> When I open a drawing, the variable settings will not be what I had set.

Just to remind that :

  • VISRETAIN (System Variable) value .... Saved in drawing.
  • XREFOVERRIDE (System Variable) value .... Saved in drawing.
  • VISRETAINMODE (System Variable) value .... Controls the behavior of the VISRETAIN system variable when it's set to 1 .... Saved in Registery.

When it is said that a system variable is saved in the drawing, it means that the value of that variable is stored within the drawing file itself. A system variable saved in the registry affects all drawings and sessions of AutoCAD on the same computer. Its value remains consistent regardless of which drawing is open.

Understanding whether a system variable is saved in the drawing or globally can help maintain consistency in workflows, especially when working on shared projects or templates.

(setvar "visretain" 1)
(setvar "visretainmode" 0)
(setvar "XREFOVERRIDE" 1)

I added the variables in my the LISP file, the settings did not change the values in the Express>Tools>System Variable Editor.

The files are shared.

I need the setting to live with every drawing I open on my computer.

What are numbers 1 & 2?
