As the message states, the surface intersects itself.

Command: THICKEN
Select surfaces to thicken: 1 found
Select surfaces to thicken:
Specify thickness <1.0000>: 0.01
Modeling Operation Error:
Error Code Number is 71004
1 surface cannot be thickened with specified value. Object intersects itself.

I suggest cutting the surface into smaller sections and use thicken on each portion of the model to help find the offending surface area.  I assume the model is symmetrical.  If so, simplify the modeling an model half of it then mirror after converting it to a solid with thicken.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense as I understand a surface intersecting one another would mean somewhere there are to edges of a surface overlapping as such? I think I will try as you suggested

I have found the offending piece! it is the red piece sperate to the rest of the model do you what's intersecting itself on that piece? of is it just who of those AutoCAD quirks I may need to redraw?

See attached dwg

Thank you for your help really apricated!

I increased the number of isolines to 50.  I do not like this corner.

Can you model the chamfer/radius of this corner with a couple of smaller suraces?
