Hi Autodesk community
I have a drawing that uses a Variable Font but I run into trouble when plotting to PDF. The output doesn't display the styles and weights as expected, for example:
This is a plot preview of what I wanted to output (condensed font)
And this is what was plotted to PDF (regular font, not condensed)
It seems that Autodesk does not yet fully support the Variable Font standard.
I found a workaround, which is to disable "capture fonts" and enable "convert text to geometry"
under the PDF options in the Plot dialog. The drawback is it adds a huge amount of file size.
So my question is does anyone know if Autodesk has plans to "fully" support this? It would be a boon to designers because this a powerful tool. The variable font standard ensures text widths are the same regardless of style and weight (e.g. light / bold), and is now widely supported by Adobe, Apple, Google, and Microsoft.
I am hopeful Autodesk will offer support for this in future, and wondered if anyone has heard any indications or has inside information.
Many thanks
Autodesk is a publicly traded corporation and rarely announces or confirms future plans. You can sign up for the feedback community to participate and learn about plans earlier than non-feedback community participants.
or you can submit your ideas HERE for voting. thanks
No, that forum is for community ideas, not product ideas. There is no idea forum for AutoCAD here. Augi maintains the AutoCAD wish list.
A very good question and a really interesting idea, worth thinking about. Please tell me what application do you use to create your drawings? Thank you!
