AutoCAD 2015

Hate to rehash an old complaint. For the past couple of days I have searched the forums not really found a good answer to my problem.

I am a power user, I have used Autocad since pre-windows and a speed drawer. I just made the switch from 2011 (also a buggy version) to 2015.

I find when a drawing has been open for a longish time my performance drops to the point where I can hardly draw.

This morning it actually happen in front of me, I created a block edited it, closed the block and suddenly my zoom stuttered, selection speed dropped way off, its like there are too many Osnaps or something. Its almost like some sort of cache fills up and doesn't empty.

My solution has been to close all drawings, close Autocad and restart. This fixes everything but my productivity has dropped way off.

Occurs on two different computers, both customized for AutoCAD, correct video card, correct drivers, plenty of horse power.

I have purged my drawings, Audited them,Regen, redraw and Overkilled them. They aren't huge 3mb - 6mb. They do contain a lot of blocks , no constraints, a lot of Paperspace's.

Hardware accelaration on.

One thing that does work is breaking my larger drawings into smaller ones, but that kinda sucks.

Unrelated? A couple of times I have crashed coming out of a block or moving that contains a lot of complex splines.

Same computer 2011 was on? Sounds like your graphics card is choking, have you tried changing hardware acceptation settings? System specs? What does "large file" mean to the rest of us way over here with not access to them? Or do you still mean 3-6Mb files?

Thats pretty big for a 2D drawing.  Or is it 3D?

Continuously working in the program for a full day will result in a gradual increase in RAM use until it tops out (you don't mention how much you have - "lots of horsepower" is subjective), even when you close drawings.  It may get worse when a drawing is held open.  It's not a bug, not something AutoDesk can program away, thats just how the background system works with allocating and releasing chunks of memory.

Yes same computer that ran 2011, new graphics card though. And I have the same issue on a brand new laptop MSI G60 recomended by Autodesk (in 2014) Unfortunately Ii am typing this away from my desk or I could post the computers specs. i would like to post the file, I think I would prefer to do that as a PM though, not that it contains propietary info. I work in both 2D and 3D as well as 3DsMax. These particular files are 2D.

Thanks for your response.

This is almost what it seems to be, todays event happened in the morning, but normally I sit in AutoCad all day, multiple files open.True not much Autocad can do about windows.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing.  AutoCAD 2015 doesn't release memory as well as previous versions.  Over the course of the day, it will keep building up higher and higher and get more laggy as the day goes on.  I've just got in the habit of closing the program and reopening it every couple of hours instead of having it open all day as I did in 2014 and before.

There are a lot of performance issues in 2015 that I have experienced.  The two service packs fixed some of the issues, but many still remain.  If 2016 follows in the same vein, we'll be upgrading our computers to 2014 this year instead.

Edit:  Entering and exiting the block editor a lot seems to exacerbate this problem.  It was not a problem with 2014 on the same system.

Kudo's this describes my situation exactly. It feels like the drawing is accumulating baggage, especially as you add and edit blocks, and especially blocks containing complex splines and p-lines.

I hold and draw on several drawings at a time all day to feed information to the shop floor. Although annoying - easy enough to close all and reboot CAD every now and then.

Edit: Same, looking longingly at 2011 wondering if I should remount it on my computer.
