My text is all squished in my AUTOCAD. I have tried everything in the autocad article to fix it (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Odd-gr...) but its still not fixed.

If you use (or wish to upgrade to) AutoCAD2017, go grab the 2017.1.1 update (notice the "point one point one" in the name) from your active subscription-only updates page https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Read all about it here: http://blogs.autodesk.com/autocad/autocad-2017-fall-update/
Note: It doesn't solve all the problems, just many of them. A better fix will probably show up in AutoCAD2018 later this year or AutoCAD2019 next year.

But... AutoCAD2016 and lower were not designed for high-res monitors AND AUTODESK HAS NO PLANS TO EVER CHANGE THAT REALITY. These older versions will only run on displays set to 1920x1080 (also try 2560x1440 and up to 2560x1600 if you have that option) and at 100% text scaling (no more than 125% text scaling).

I looked into upgrading to the newer version, but I can't seem to find it. I know my computer is too powerful for AUTOCAD, but this was the laptop my school suggested for my program,

You have/use the 2016 version. The fix is not available to you, you are not using the 2017-version.

You will need to either:
1. Sign up for a newer AutoCAD 2017-version at the EDU protal (it's not automatic to EDU licenses without effort). Same process that got your the 2016-version. Talk to your school/professor about it.
2. Or knock your display settings down as noted in the second part of my reply if you want to keep the 2016-version http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Odd-gra...
